Tahoe Dawg- We also recently purchased a 2003 IQ (stock) that we added a new plum quick motor, and 6" lift kit with 22 inch tires (new controller and other items). After a few months use the motor burned up. Our search revealed the above post. My question is how do we determine if this cart has the high speed gears or if they have been changed...we are trying to find a reason for the burned up motor and have not found any thing else that seems to be the potential source other than the gears. Thanks for any assistance you can give.

We get two equal cars set on the same speed code with the same size tire and see if one is substantially faster/more sluggish than the other

First off...thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I dont have that option. I know no one with anything like this cart in the area. This cart still had the CA DOT sticker on it and the "This cart is not configured for golf cart use" sticker on the dash. We got it from a guy in South Florida who bought it from a guy who moved to FL from CA...so I suspect this never was refurbed or converted by CC when it came from CA to FL.

I was thinking more in the line of breaking the transaxle down and counting teeth or checking numbers on the internal gears to verify...any idea what I would be looking for on the inside of the transaxle (if that is what it is called)? My only other option is to just change the gears. I dont want to burn up another motor...but hate guessing.

I can find no other apparent reason (Cart rolls easily, Brakes not dragging, problem with the Controller, we had no special loads or conditions that day...just cruising the beach in Daytona...etc) unless there was a problem with the motor itself when we got it...it is on its way back to Plum Quick to see if they can determine if there was a motor problem that caused this.

When we put the motor on originally we noted it seemed to be awful hot after running...cannot keep your hand on the metal...too hot..checked the temp with a IR thermo...was in the 160+ range, but Plum Quick said that was OK...seemed hot to me...

Well... I'm resurrecting my old thread that I posted 7 years ago, talk about a long absence. I ended up installing the lift & 22" tires back then & used the cart doing yard work for a year. It then sat in my carport until last week. I gave it a good wash & replaced all the batteries & have now gained interest in it again. I would like to upgrade the Motor & controller now. Can anyone recommend a good combo? I've since bought a Polaris 6X6, so the CC is just a toy to play around with in my yard. That being said, speed & torque run through my veins so I'd like to get whatever puts the biggest smile on my face.

There are several combos out there that work, some are speed and some are more for torque, but with the right controller you can more balance your need. That is an IQ cart (and hopefully had the HS gears replaced) so look at something like a Admiral A-2 (speed) A-4 (torque) or FSIP makes the A-3 that is really fast too. (scottyb has posted a thread on his results). Get you an Alltrax XCT-48500-IQ controller and 2 awg cables with a 400 amp solenoid and you should be rocking and rolling. I know quite a few people have bought the A-4 and then used the controller to give it more speed and scottyb gets 27.5 mph with stock tires if I remember correctly. Also with Alltrax you have the FNKS capability option that will allow you to program in three (3) separate modes of user selected operation. (You could make 1 speed, 2 torque, 3 slow or whatever you want)

Check with scottyb - Carts Unlimited and TahoeDawg71 - Revolution Golf Cars for their kits as both of them can sell you what you need and supply you a good package deal with customized support to meet your needs.

Tahoe, how do i know if i have high speed, and would 19-20" wheels within lift have the same affect of a lift and 23" wheels? this cart has been modified to a 6 seater

You'd have to compare the maximum ground speed to the speed setting in the controller to see if it matches up. 19-20" tires won't fit without a lift, but if they did, they wouldn't have the same affect as 22-23" tires because they're not as tall or heavy.

I ended up calling TahoeDawg & purchased an Admiral A-4, Alltrax 500a controller & HD solenoid. This set up rips... not sure what my top speed is but it's a perfect balance between torque & speed, more than enough of both. Thank you TahoeDawg
