97 club car 48volt
Recently purchased a 1997 club car ds with the 3.1hp/225amp controller.
Replaced batteries with Trojan 875's they charged just fine for the first two weeks and then all of a sudden I can't get the charger to come on. Here is what I have done: *checked fuse at the charger plug *replaced batteries *had the charger checked on a cart at the dealer and it works *continuity between all points of plug and up to obc on the gray wire *tried the reset on the obc per dealer I'm outta options - my belief now would be the OBC but I am not positive. Thanks for the input. |

Re: 97 club car 48volt
A very good way to check OBC was posted by SCOTTYB for check of 1997 Club Car OBC.
"The black wire coming out of charge recepticle has a fuse holder, open it up and connect a jumper from the end coming out of recepticle to the negative post on battery #6, or last one in series. Plug in the charger and if it comes on your OBC is most likely TOAST" Hope this gives you the answer you need? |

Re: 97 club car 48volt
Pulled the fuse holder like suggested and hooked a wire to the #6 negative post and the fuse holder, the charger relay came on but there was not a sign of any current draw shown on the charger.
Is this what is meant when we say the charger should come on or do I have a different problem. Anybody have a good suggestion on were to by parts for carts. Appalachian golf carts has been pretty good to me over the phone with advice on troubleshooting anybody else have experience with this company, they have the correct OBC for 180.00. Just wondering if this is a good deal or not. Thanks for the help |

Re: 97 club car 48volt
Charger should kick in and show charging rate after few seconds with by pass as Scottyb showed? It should continue to charge until bypass is removed. You must have another problem of some kind? Does your charger meter move at all?

Re: 97 club car 48volt
open up your charger and bypass the low voltage sensor very easy to do, just tape up the one wire end so it dosn,t touch anything.........plug charger in if it works than OBC is bad if cart runs you can do this to charger batteries but charger will not shut off so you,ll have to keep an eye on it or you can fry batteries.........i know of a few carts running around like this but i don,t reccomend it because of the chance of frying the batts......................this is the simplist test to find if OBC is bad.....................................

Re: 97 club car 48volt
Thanks for the advice - come to think about it.....I may not have waited long enough with the jumper, will the meter deflect right away with the jumper or is there a delay as usual?
I'm pretty new to all of the components associated with golf carts, I'm assuming the low volt sensor is just after the 120v fuse block in the charger? If I remember right there is a red wire along with a blue wire on the one side of this block and then the other side has a common (neutral to transformer) wire and a 120v wire. thanks |

Re: 97 club car 48volt
Just can't convince myself its the obc!
The gray wire coming out of the cart charger receptacle with the fuse was placed on the negative side of battery #6 with a jumper, the charger relay clicked on but no indication of current flow and/or transformer hummm. Is there anything else on the cart other than the obc that tells the charger to come on? Does the solenoid play any function in the charging circuit? I'm almost a believer (51%) that its the OBC which aren't cheap! Thanks for the help very fustrated!? |

Did you follow Shadowman's instructions? If so, what happened?

Re: 97 club car 48volt
Yeah - took the cart to a local club car dealer and plugged it into a cart that is good and the charger came on.
Buyin tomorrow from Appalachian Golf Cars were it is under two bills, if you ever get stumped to were the forum can't help call Al at Appalachian. I'm pretty sure he's a certified pimp - that place is very helpful. Thanks for all the help everybody. Teamflaxseed OUT! |
