Default mcor contoller

Do I need a special or different controller, if I have a mcor setup rather than a pot box? I have a 96CC, 48v, 8:1 rear, upgraded wires, 36v GE motor. Using OEM (200amp?)controller. Get 24MPH on original 18" tires. Hardly any torque at all. Then a 6" lift kit, 22"tires and get 25MPH, Not much gain there!! and less torque. Want to upgrade controller. Would a 400 amp controller do or do I need to go larger? Curtis or Alltrax? I hear about the different types of pot boxes 0-5k, 5k-0 . But not on the Mcor or am I missing something?

Thanks

The MCOR is 5K-0 output.. Alltrax controllers are programmable to whatever throttle input you have..

Do you program them yourself or have them done before purchase?

They're easily programmed with a laptop and a USB/Serial adapter cable, or you can order them pre-programmed from most of the sponsors..

Is there a special program I need to be able to program it myself? If so Where do I get it? Also do you think a 400 amp controller would do the job for me? What would I gain by going bigger? Say a 500 amp? Just trying to keep costs down a wee bit!

Alltrax has the programming software on their website, it's a free download..

Alltrax ControllerPro Software

A 400 amp should be plenty.. I've had the laptop hooked up to the AXE 500 in Ike and monitored amp draw while climbing curbs, etc.. Ike's GE D395 w/ 8:1 gears has never pulled more than 395 amps.. I put an AXE 500 on Ike just to have a bit of margin left, the 500 amp has a bigger heat sink.. Since heat is the killer of electronics, I went a bit overkill for a more durable drivetrain in our hot summers..

Thanks for all the info. I guess I`ll go order my Alltrax controller. Is there a difference in Alltrax controllers? I notice you keep saying Alltrax Axe. Are there other styles of Alltrax? I`m going to go with the 400amp as I just cruise the neighborhood.

CT,

The AXE series of controllers are for use with series wound motors, the DCX series are for use with SepEx wound motors..

CC-John'
I noticed in your IKE build that yours was a 96 and had a "black pot box" and not a mcor. Mines a 96 also. How can I tell if it is a pot box? And if it is what would be the setting for the Alltrax? Also I found an Alltrax that is precalibrated for 0-5K. Can it be changed to 5K-0? It is programable. I just didn`t know what was meant by precalibrated. Other than it is preset for 0-5K

Your 96 is a series cart 5k-0 .... precalibrated are just preset. You can save some $ by going with a non programable controller too.... not everyone needs to program their controller. Unless your cart is an extreme ride or you want to tone down the controller ... I don't see the need for more than factory settings ....
