Default Battery Questions

I have a 1984 36v Club car that some of you helped me out with a while back.
Thanx for that.

Now I have battery questions.

How full should they be of water?

How long should a full charge take?

Bear in mind the batteries are mixed. NOT MY FAULT!!! I bought the cart this way. 4 of them are from 2002 and 2 are from 2004. Its really wierd, sometimes I will get 27 holes on a charge that is still drawing 5 amps no problem, but last thursday I almost had to push it up the last hill after 27 with a full charge. I put it to bed that night, and this morning (Sunday) when I went out, it was still drawing 6 amps.

I put water in last Wednesday night before I went out on Thursday, and the charger had shut off before I did this, but thinking it might take more after I filled it, as I could see plates in 12 of the 18 cells, I put it back on the charger and it was still charging the next morning, but only drawing a couple of amps. According to the charger, of course.

Any help and or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I see a battery replacement in your near future, yes the complete set.
The batteries are getting pretty old but if they're still working then keep charging and running.
Get a meter and do a voltage check of all the batteries after charging.
Charging could take up to 12 hours if the batteries are discharged 50%.
Water level should be 1/4" above the plates.

Here is a state of charge chart to help assess your batteries:

I hate to say this, but I was kinda figuring that. Thanks for the info.

When I put my DMM on the pack, I get 38.8v across the pack, but it drops to less than 34 up the hill. I don't have a hygrometer yet, (planning on picking one up tommorrow morning after work), but I will test them when I can and let u know what I find out.

Thanks again,
Bob

I agree with Doug. If you are satisfied with the cart and plan on keeping it go ahead and put a new set in, check all cables and keep on riding for a long time! Good Luck!
