Default 1984 club car 36v

i have used my cart for several months....batteries are 8/09 and show 38+ volts... i was driving cart this afternoon and it quit... the cable on left solenoid was burned and hanging.

i used a clamp and was able to drive in reverse back to my house... after checking all wiring, and repairing the burned cable; i still can't get it going

i get readings of 38+ volts on each of the four solenoids on the left, but no reading on the far right solenoid.... when i remove the cable from that solenoid and touch it to the other solenoids, the motor goes forward and reverse...

is that far right solenoid suppose to have a voltage reading?

i replaced the far left solenoid last year as the post had burned off..

hope one of you electrical geniuses can help me.... i usually drive my cart
2-4 miles each day...

thanks

Clarification Please-- When talking of left and right it normally means while sitting in drivers seat, example right hand would be on passenger side. When you are speaking of "RIGHT SOLENOID" is this the one nearest drivers or passenger side of cart?
Solenoid nearest driver is main that feed rest of solenoids their power through connector bar.
In the case of burning posts or cables in most cases is because of poor connections either by being loose or high resistance in wiring or too small wire etc.

Sounds like the wire or wires going to that solenoid may be in bad shape and caused the solenoid to get hot and melt. When the plastic got hot, the post fell out with the wire. Replace the solenoid and all wiring that looks bad and you should be good to go.

While Tdawg is correct... I know a little of the history of this old cart. I suggest you either carry 2 spare solenoids with you & some wrenches, or just bite the bullet and replace the other 4 They have all opened and closed a haffa-million times in their 25 yr life and need replacing. The one closest to the drivers side that went out now is the master..... without it, nobody clicks Also some of the cables could need replacing too... if they are very high in resistance due to natural internal corrosive buildup... that will create heat too.

thanks for your information.... when i say right solenoid, it when i look down at it from the front, ie: the driver side would be the right solenoid... when i check the voltage on it, i get zero, but the other four are all over 38 volts... i switched the driver solenoid with the one on opposite end, and it still didn't do anything... i hear clicking in the controller..... when i take the main cable from the driver side solenoid and short it directly to the other 4 solenoids, the wheels turn both forward and reverse....
is there any sort of fuse that could have been blown? when i rode it today, it was the
cable connected to the passenger side solenoid that had burned and was hanging.. i replaced that solenoid last year, so don't know why it would burn the cable connector again.... thanks to each of you for your suggestions..

Okay so if I follow you took a known good solenoid and put it in place of the nonworking solenoid(the master, drivers side)and the known gd sloenoid did not work in that place. Is that correct? If yes then you will now be introduced to the second half of this system, the solenoid activation group.

ok.... guess you're gonna tell me about the solenoid activation group....

is there any type of fuse that might have blown when the cable got hot? i replaced the
passenger side solenoid last year when it over heated and burned the post and cable..
but that is the same cable that burned today.... i appreciate any information you can give me.... there isn't any cart people in the yucca valley area...

Earlier you mentioned the controller? There is no (solid state) speed controller per say on this cart. The speed control consists of a plastic slide and 5 micro switches in a little silver box at the end of the accelerator rod under the driver's seat....... each micro activates a solenoid. 5 micros ~ 5 solenoids........ get where I'm going?

right..... i know where the bx is, but don't know about getting into it...
don't remember if i told you that when the cart quit, it went in reverse, but not in forward.
i drove it over a mile to my house in reverse.... then when i put a new end on the cable, it wouldn't go forward or reverse, unless i shorted across the main solenoid to the 2,3,4,5 solenoids... it will go forward or reverse by shorting across....

what can i do about the silver box and the switches? do i get to it under the cart?
