Vehicle registration
Has anyone gotten an Ohio Underspeed vehicle registration? I take my Cart Thursday to get it inspected. Odd they couldn`t tell me what they were going to look or inspect for. They just said "Bring it in and we`ll inspect it" They also said they had only done 2 in the last 5 yrs. So we`ll see what happens.

Re: Vehicle registration
Sounds like they just want their money for a quick "look-see".

Re: Vehicle registration
Well I finally got it. Man what a hoop jump. NO_ONE knows what another is doing and or what to do. Then once I got my title, They weren`t sure I could put plates on it or what kind. AND most places never heard of plates on a golf cart!!

Re: Vehicle registration
Trader-In Ohio you are probably in for many more hoops in order to get your cart licensed for street use. I am surprised they gave you a title. Ohio passed legislation in 2002 allowing LSVs to follow the federal NEV guidelines. Beyond that it doesn't appear they have set up or published what is required for licensing. Their law says your cart must have been manufactured to meet Fed. LSV standards as shown by a "Certificate of Origin". or have a Fed. sticker that says it meets the standards. Outside of Florida, Arizona & California I found that licensing for street use was a hassle.(These states appear to have less stringent requirements. I was successful in licensing my 2005 Gem Car, brought in from Cal. here to Washington State. I was saved a lot of hassle as it had been street licensed in Cal. Guidelines were almost like a car. LIghts,W/S wipers, Directional lights, brake lights & seat belts. It must be capable of 25MPH speed but limited to roadways of 35MPH or lower speed limits. Compliance with Liability Insurance is required. (I pay $166. per year with Foremost for "full coverage"). Another problem is getting to the right license deparment individual as it is so danged easy for them to say no. I wish you luck and suggest you approach it in reference to the Fed NEV requirement as it seems to be more familiar to every one.

Re: Vehicle registration
Yes I found all this out!! I did finally get it titled!! And then I did finally get the plates. But here they say it can`t go over 20 mph...(mine does go a bit faster than that!! ) The guy was grinning from ear to ear when he test drove it during inspection. He also said I was only the 3rd one to get inspected in the last 5 yrs..

Re: Vehicle registration
If it is the cart in your ID pic. I am amazed you got the plates. It looks as though there isn't a windshield or seatbelts. Do you have to comply with insurance requirements? Don't rely on your home policy that may cover Liability for off road or golf course use as most exclude "while licensed for highway use". Did they give you anything in writing as to the regulations as I don't get the 20MPH limit.? Club Car is now selling new carts that comply with fed. NEV requirements and are supposed to be a snap to register for highway use. I understand they will go the 25MPH that seems to be required here in Washington. Oh yes I was required to have a horn on the Gem Car!!

Re: Vehicle registration
No The one in the pic is not the one I had registered. It is next though. need to get windshield and a rearview mirror. I am putting seatbelts on it , BUT were NOT required...go figure!! Yes the paperwork I have states no faster than 20MPH...which I thought was a bit weird also. Also stated turn signals, self illuminating, front AND rear, electrical or mechanical. What are Mechanical turn signals? My insurance policy is state minimum liability plus comp. and is required, same as a regular vehicle. That wasn`t that hard to get. Oh and horn also required here too

Re: Vehicle registration
MANY years ago there was a mech signal arm used on trucks. It was an arm that hung down on side . you pulled a lever, straight out was left and another 45% was right. I haven't seen one in 40 years. maybe there is a newer one. My insurance is 100/300/50 liability 100 ded. comp & 250. ded collision for $166. per year. Foremost Ins. Co. (owned by Farmers Ins.).
You might write up notes on everything you had to do as someone else in Ohio may need help on this. |
