Default choppy throttle problem

Hi yall, asked this question a while back and got 0 responce thought I'd try again.Have a 2000 48v,CC regen cart, new controller, motor, batts and all electric is new. Some of you may remember this winter when I was doing it,The Saltwater Sparky. The carts performs great, scary fast, the only issue is a very choppy run at light throttle conditions.Pulled new pot box checked pad contact, checked resistance values all resistors and totals. It feels like the chop is between lugs,if find the right spot with the throttle it will run smooth. Is a throttle change, type, what we need here????Is the pot box not giving a smooth signal to controller????Is a mcor conversion what we need??? need some help or any direction. Thanx Dave

On your 2000 DS regen you should have a MCOR under passenger side floor. There is a fair amount of problems with linkage on those units with MCOR but its usually top speed cut back? Could your cart have the 36 volt pie shaped V GLIDE unit under drivers seat? If it has then yes they could be touchy as the spacing if not set correctly will be even worse than normal. These were used for many years with resistors and then later on with solid state controllers with small resistors on back side to give controller low variable voltage. Please advise if this is pot box you are talking about?

Thought I'd drag out this old thread for an up date, starting to look like this problem is controller based, pulled the controller and researched it.It is GE ezgo PDS controller 300amp that was reprogramed for the club car.The new D&D motor calls for a 500 amp controller.I talked to D&D and they kicked me to Flight Systems who does most of the rebuilt controller work on this end of the world. This is not their work,it was probably reprogramed by a parts dist or dealer, got a great deal of help from a great dude named Tony, thanx man.Bottom line, the controller is looking for an EZGO throttle signal which is inductive style throttle which I guess is o-5k???Is it ??Anyway a new controller is a must to get to the 500 amps.Question:go ahead and change over to mcor 5k-0 throttle at the same time ???Has anyone done an alltrax DCX 500 or 600 on a 48 v regen II with a 0-5k v-glide Results???Thanx in advance Dave

I don't think you can change that one over without a major overhaul to the pedal assembly. That being said, I have personally run both the Alltrax 500 and the GE 500 and 700 AMP units on club cars using the V-Glide. Both worked really well, however the GE outperformed the Alltrax at 500 amps and was WAY more powerful at the 700 AMP unit. The sad thing is, the 700 AMP GE usually sells for the same money as a 500 AMP alltrax.

Now, all of THAT being said, because the VGlide is a MULTI-STEP unit, there is going to be some "choppy" feel to it (not as bad as you are feeling now with the wrong controller installed, but you will feel each speed as it engages). Many here on the forums have found it expediant to change from a V-Glide to a PB-6 (or PB-16) pot box since those units are considered "continously variable" and give a smoother feeling to the acceleration. There is some modification required to attain this, but it does seem to work well.

Thank Rabbit/Scotty,if I have what your saying the GE 500 or 700 will out perform the alltrax DCX 500 or 600 with no harness mods or adaptor plugs ?
My distributor only shows a GE 500 amp rebuilt upgrade and it is a 5k-0 throttle. My thought process was the Alltrax because of the ability to program either 0-5 k or 5k-0 throttle. Also I have a 0-5k pb6 but had no direction on wiring, the pot being 3 wire and the pb6 being 2 wire.Any sources on the GE contollers at 500 or 700 and 0-5k throttle would be a big help.I did see that the Ge rebuilt was pricey, only about $100 diff between new Alltrax.Going to a pb6 5k-0 would be kool but I would still have the wiring issue.Thanx again guys,it may take all winter but I will figure this thing out.Dave

Ok,it's fixed,no more choppy throttle,it was in fact the controller. The alltrax DCX 500 was just what the doctor ordered.I was totally wrong on what I had for a throttle,it was not a 0-5k pot but a 5k-0 v-glide.Anyway my problem is solved and I am happy, thanx to all who offered help and advice.Dave
