Default How do I get this off?

I see where it is squared at the ends and I tried to use vise grips and even those wont hold it while I try to bugde the nut. Each side spins independently and it is holding me back from taking the rear end off and finishing the tear down. I sprayed the hell out of the nut as well.

Thanks in advance.

Get a cold chisel and hammer and split the nut until it breaks loose. Try and not hit shaft threads so you can clean them up and reuse them unless you are changing the shocks and in that case pound away as you cant hurt anything that you will not replacing.

Controlled heat with a blue tip wrench, but I'm speaking from my 24 years as a plumber and using an acetylene torch with small tip.

If you use enough heat to damage the support, you've gone too far!!! Like on Star Trek.

Vice grips on the shaft, impact wrench on the nut.
OR Nut Splitter, Harbor Freight $4.00.

It's times like this I'm glad I work at a dealership with boxes and boxes full of shocks. lol. I'd use an air cut-off wheel and be done with it.

I don't want to save them! I am pretty much putting all new parts on the cart. I am going to go ahead and put all new nuts and bolts all around as well because they are all rusted. It's apart and going to look brand new so what the heck, I can spluge the extra $5. All I have left is the back end, the controller and the onboard computer and she'll be ready for cleaning and putting back together with the new parts.

So beat the **** out of it huh? I might just try and hack saw through the rubber cause I can't get under that little rounded plate the nut tightens onto. I'd prefer not to use a torch unless that will weaken it enough to beat break it off with a punch?
