Default Precedent Brake Light Shorting Out

I tried the search method before posting with no luck.....Here is my problem: I bought a 05' precedent a few months back and installed the factory "deluxe" light kit on it with the turn signals, horn, the whole nine yards. It installed super easily and worked flawlessly for awhile but I started noticing the right rear brake light (only) flickering like it has a short. The tail light doesn't seem to be effected either, only the brake light. I checked the factory wiring running through the body and the brake light controls under the floor board and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary? It seems like it shorts out as the cart rocks side to side? Problem with these Precedents is it seems like everything is hidden so good! So..... my question to all is, where should a guy start looking for a possible wiring issue? Under the cart, in the main "brain box" housing between the batteries? I am just trying to avoid tearing more of the cart apart than necessary.

Thanks!

i would start with the light housing itself it could be bad and than the wires trace them to make sure you don,t have one that might have rubbed thur and is grounding........problem with trying to diagnose this is who put lights in and how did they wire it up...................................

Nothing is shorting out, if it did it would blow a fuse or melt.
If this is the LED lights, I would check your connections, sounds like one is intermittent.

Smile Re: Precedent Brake Light Shorting Out

I had a lot of trouble with the switch on the brake pedal that turns the lights on & off.

Not sure which light kit you have, but my switch mounts on the bottom of the brake pedal assembly. The actuator arm on the switch was getting jamed on the brake pedal and the brake lights were on all the time.

I got a new switch and fabricated a little arm that limits the travel of the switch.

Now if I coud get the new disk brakes to work!

Hope this helps, Dave

It's not a short... it's an open circuit causing it to not work.

What happens when you apply the emergency switch on the turn signals... does the brake light remain lit and flashing when driving?

Check the connector(s) to that brake light assembly... if it's the factory unit it should be LED's. Try pulling off that tail light and test the brake lead for power when brake applied. Wiring should meet up between the batteries under the controller cover as well as inside the dash. Of course the tail light assembly should also have a plug connection as well.

If you installed the lights you'll remember that you had to cut a hold in the back fenders and pull the wiring through that hole to plug into your tail lights. That wiring I believe goes around to the front of your batteries inside the wall and into the covered portion of the controller. Then it feeds down under your mat on the passenger side and up into your dash. Others here can elaborate more on locations, etc. as well.

Like I said, although I am going to pop that light off I really have a feeling its in the wiring further up, either in the battery compartment somewhere or the between there and the dash.

I wouldn't take the tail light housing apart yet... just test for a good 12v connection to it. Also what does happen when you place your turn signal switch in hazard mode... do all lights flash constantly?
