Default Heavy Duty Solenoid ?

Whats the correct way to hook up the resistor and the diode on a White Rogers #586 series solenoid. Will the solenoid work if you dont hook them up the correct way?

resistor across the large bolts. diode across the small ones with the banded end toward positive.

Can the resistor be installed either way? The banded end of the doide is the silver strip? Which post is closer to the positive post, they are equally split across from one another and equaly dividing the two large posts?

The small posts are the activation circuit. One is gonna be Negative and one positive. It doesn't matter which small post is used for which polarity. It does matter that the banded or striped end of the diode is toward the positive of the 2 activation wires...... hope this clarifies?

Yes, the large resistor can be installed either way.

Only if the resistor or diode is shorted, which is very unlikely.
