Club car brakes

Anyone have a solution for the rear brakes locking up when pedal is pressed lightly

pull the drums and see if you have any pad left. I had one that would do this and found that the pads were gone and it was metal to metal.

Check that the the rear axle housing is not rotating under braking.

What year cart?Did you install a lift? If yes the cables are gonna need to be adjusted they are pulled too tight.If no then either the brake linings need attention as rabbit says or the cable lever at the drums is not sliding properly and you need to do a little cleaning and lubrication of the slides.

One more thing if you just recently installed a lift is the axle rotating.

1997 ds. Plenty of pad left, and there was a lift on it when i bought the cart. I did try adjusting the cables and shoes. Still need to check for axle housing roll. I seen a bracket for brake cables in a catalog for lifted club cars and i dont have that bracket, maybe this is the fix.

Brake cable drop down bracket could be your solution, and also make sure the cable hangers are'nt pulling the cables too much.To see if they are just unhook them and see if it helps and then if they are a source of tension just make some longer ones.

A car that has a Spring-Over axle conversion on the rear can cause this if it's not done properly. This being due to the rotating of the drive unit under braking. It's called "Axle Wrap"

Mine did this too. I got a drop down bracket and it works perfect. Simple little piece of angle it just loosens the cables housing so you have a stock brake feel. Before I installed it on mine I had to be careful who I let drive it. If you were not careful applying the brakes it would lock them up. Now they are smooth. The bracket isn't very much i think it was about $20. It should come standard in all lift kits.

Thanks everybody the bracket is the fix. The brakes work like they are supposed to
