v-glide grinding

I am working on a 1990 CC and the brush on the v-glide is so tight that it's grinding into the contacts. Since the arm is spring loaded, I can pull it out from the contacts and it's fine for a while but then it does it again.

It seems to me I can't put any sort of lubrication on the contacts. How can I get the brush to not be as tight on the contacts?

No you cant lub the brush contacts.
All the following shows how I would check for answers to your problem step by step.
About the grinding could it be caused by a rough brush on speed switch arm or from the V glide contacts inside being rough from poor contact and arcing at some time before? New brushes will drag until they get broke in but not to what you are talking about. The self tapping screw that holds brush to arm might not be seated all the way down or it and lock washer missing? I have smoothed the V glide contacts with a short piece ( long enough to bridge at least 3 contacts at a time ) of 1/2" angle with fine crocus cloth to bring surface to same heigth.
From what you said about pulling out helping for awhile I am wondering if the brush spring is not loose fitting enough into the wiper switch arm carrier, or that the speed switch arm itself is warped from heat? Have you taken assembly apart and or checked the bronze bearing for wear that would allow wiper switch arm to move out of position, or that the speed switch adjustment stud and nut are loose or missing?

If needed you can purchase just the wiper arm separately if the old one is just worn out, FYI.

OM is right it should move freely without much resistance, it would be a good idea to disconnect your batts, and remove so that when you look at the v-glide you will be able to see it easily.

This is a brand new v-glide assembly with a brand new arm and brush.

I was able to figure it out. There is an adjustment screw that is slotted on the end of it so you can use a flat head screwdriver to adjust it. I had to pull out the battery right next to it but then I was able to set the brush so it wasn't tight on the contacts. The screw is on the arm below the spring and is has a nut on the exposed side of the arm.

Happy That you were able to solve your problem. Thats the speed switch adjustment stud and nut that I talked about near the end of my message.
Very uncommon for a NEW unit to be set up wrong, might have been a monday morning or friday afternoon assembly like cars?

Man, talk about short memory. I had forgotten that I had opened this thread about the vglide and had opened a new one. Anyway, I think found the problem.

After taking out the entire v-glide, I noticed that the terminal for the wire on the wiper arm was point up towards the contacts. When the wiper arm came down, sometimes it didn't quite engage the micro switch. I loosened the terminal end and pointed it down. Now when the arm comes down, it clicks the micro switch.
