battery exploded
Today while driving my 97 CC the cart quit running. When I pushed the go pedal the cart would only inch forward then click and stop. The pack voltage was 49.3 and all connections were tight. While pressing gas pedal several times again to try to move it a battery exploded. Why would that happen? Was a bad solenoid the problem to start with?

Re: battery exploded
I have seen this happen ( THANK HEAVENS SELDOM ) where battery shorts out internally and because of heavy gassing off ( hydrogen bomb ) it explodes? Normally what happened to you would have been caused by bad external cable connection that set battery off. I learned long ago to wear full face shield ( safety glasses help but doesn't protect face ) and long sleeve shirts when working with batterys. Its a good thing that you were not under seat to catch the explosion in your face? Let me make a guess that the battery was either numbers 5 or 6 ( #5 driver side front, #6 drivers side rear ) as Club Car seems to have these batterys go bad first?? I think its time for you to buy a new battery pack as you may have several others with problems?

Re: battery exploded
I happened to be sitting on the seat when it let loose but moments before that I had my head next to them. I did replace the bad battery (#2 batt.) and the cart moved okay but I am concerned it might blow again so I only moved it a few yards. I just want to be sure it was the battery itself that caused the problem and not something else damaging the battery. Could the extra strain of the lift kit and oversized tires on the pack cause the battery to go bad or should I just shut up and drive it? With the stock motor, controller and wires it seems to have plenty of pep.

Re: battery exploded
Check your connections. More than likely battery was just fuming from being driven, and a loose cable makes a spark.......And KA-POW

Re: battery exploded
A shorted cell will cause a batt to explode. It was either a shorted batt or a spark.

Re: battery exploded
The added load of lift kit and oversize tires will show ( whatever is weak ), may it be batterys or poor connections, under size battery cables, etc. I would look at updating your cables with #4 welding multi strand cables and be sure to do ALL including motor leads and F&R cables. I would do a load check of all batterys as yours may all be on the way out? If you dont have a way to load test I would get a single float hydrometer with temperature correction and test all cells and record readings and compare with STICKIES "STATE OF CHARGE READINGS" I wouldnt be afraid to drive your cart as long as all batterys, cables, connections are good. This really isnt a normal thing to happen but you dont want to ( EVER HAVE IT HAPPEN AGAIN ).

Re: battery exploded
FWIW batteries do not gas in the discharge cycle, only the charging cycle

Re: battery exploded
SUNKING I am not familiar with the term "FWIW" batterys, can you explain please? To my knowledge all wet cell batterys after being under a load do gas off to atmosphere some unless they are sealed? And yes they do gas off under charge as well. Maybe I am behind times on new battery terchnology please enlighten me as even at my age I like to learn new things.
