Default Are my batteries good?

I just refilled my Precedent 4x12v batteries and did a charge. After the charge, I get 12.90, 12.90, 12.91, and 12.92 volts, with a total pack charge of 38.69. Something doesn't add up here. Shouldn't the 12.9s multiply to 51.6? It's an '04 with '07 batteries. Also looking down the sides of them, they are bloating up some. Is this a sign that new batteries are in my future? What should the readings be? Thank you and a Happy 4th to y'all!

There is a table in the forum somewhere in the stickies that will give you proper readings. If your batteries are reading what you describe you must not have the tester on the right terminals when checking pack voltage. Make sure you are testing between the first and last battery. Your reading is around what 3 should read, so you must be testing around the fourth.

make sure your terminals are clean too before you put the volt meter on it so you are getting the right reading.

OK, so now the readings are different. I guess they were still warm from the charge. They are now 12.69, 12.70, 12,71, 12.71 and 38.10 for the pack. I think the terminals are clean; no corrosion and the red terminal protector spray is all over them. 38.10 is the best I get trying every possible pos and neg combination. I got a good Fluke digital voltmeter, so I don't think it is suspect.

something is not wired correctly..... with those readings on individual batteries you should be adding up to 50.81 for the pack. Follw the wiring and make sure that a battery isn't in backwards, or wired incorrectly.

My bad. I was reading from the wrong terminals. The individual batteries are right around 12.67; and the pack is 50.7. I feel like such a fool. So now that I have the correct readings, do they look good? Is 50.7 too much for a 48 volt system?

50.7 actually looks a little low to me for a fully charged system, but I will let others chime in.

Now if it makes a difference, I just topped off. Could it be it will get stronger as I put more charges on them?
