536R club car charger not turning on
I own an early 90's model 36 volt CC (see photo of Serial #)
The charger is a 536R (also in photos) The car still works fine with remaining charge. The charger will not turn on when plugged into the car: was working fine one day, and nothing the next. Checked continuity from plug end to inside the charger, so the cable is fine. No obvious disconnections inside the cart or the charger. Electrical outlet to power the charger is fine, fuse on front panel of charger is fine. Fuse inside the cart above charger receptacle is fine. My suspicion is the solenoid. It once had a snubber on it, but it was disconnected when I bought it, and I never reconnected it. Is there something I can test? |

Re: 536R club car charger not turning on
have you tested the capacitor in charger? and have you tried charger on another cart? never hurts to make certain its the charger so if you can i would at least try it on another cart or get a known working charger and try on your cart......its just a fast way to not waste time on either charger or cart to be certain which is broke..................................

Re: 536R club car charger not turning on
Tested the capacitor, and it appears to be bad. Any suggestions on where I can get a new one? It's a 3MF..

Re: 536R club car charger not turning on
I used just a normal ohm meter to test, and was getting nothing. Bought a new capacitor, and it too wasn't showing much of anything. put it in the charger, and still don't have anything clicking on to charger the cart. plugged the charger in to the wall for a while thinking maybe the new Cap needs to charge a little; no help. Plugged it into just the cart for a bit then the wall; no help. I wish i had access to another cart or charger to eliminate one or the other...

Re: 536R club car charger not turning on
Have you tried putting a jumper wire on the relay connections .... this eliminates the relay and will connect the 110v current directly to the transformer.... have the cart plugged in first and then see if it comes on? If it does replace the relay.

Re: 536R club car charger not turning on
I put the new Capacitor in, and a jumper across the relay. Plugged in the cart, then the electricity and the transformer started humming! Now to find a new relay part # JC1aF-TM-DC36V-H57. So far this little devil has been tough to find. Going to stop by a few cart stores to see where I can find one.

That should be readily available at any cart store. I know I replace on average 5-6 a month and keep at least a dozen on hand at all times.

Re: 536R club car charger not turning on
Ok, Got the new relay in and no luck. Apparently the relay is not seeing current across the sensor to switch the relay on. This point to a problem with the electronic control module. I looked at it closely and don't see any apparent problems with it. Should I attempt to find a replacement for that module?
