Re: running 28" tires on 48v cart
I'd definitely look into an upgrade.... As for the gearing change, yes they're available but the ratio changes that are offered would take you in the wrong direction. They're more geared towards speed... Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the E-Z-GO drive unit will nearly bolt right up, and lower gears are available for it. I'm planning on doing a swap like this for my Precedent in the future when I add 26" tires.

Re: running 28" tires on 48v cart
www.buggiesunlimited.com has a set of 15.1 gears for the 86-96 gas and 86 up electric thats a 25% reduction should be able to see a difference i know on the fourwheelers a 25% reduction makes a big difference

Re: running 28" tires on 48v cart
oh yeah the price was like 280 i think with the gears and plum quick motor and contoller upgrade that just might work if the cart runs 20mph with the stock gears should still run 15 to 18mph with lower gears

Re: running 28" tires on 48v cart
on a 97 you should have a Kawasaki... Look at the orientation of the bolts that hold the center chunk together. If they're inserted from the drivers side it's a Kawasaki... Passenger side.. Graziano
