" Son-In Law unplugged 3 wire connector to motor and car would run" By running do you mean cart run correctly with power, speed etc? Speed sensor is mounted on end of motor with 2-3 screws and has 3 wires connecting into wiring harness. Normally when defective they cause controller to go to limp speed ( 6-8 MPH ) not stop moving completley?
You need to take diagnostic's step by step and not jump ahead and miss real problem by guessing.

Yes by runs I do mean it appears to run correctly. I tried to run it again and it did the same would travel then the motor stops. This occurs in foward or reverse. I then unplugged the three wire conector and it seems to run fine at low and high speeds and foward or reverse. As I said at the start cart was charged over night when problem first occured found bad selenoid replaced still acting up. Could new selenoid be bad? Speed sensor? And why does it run when I unplug conector to motor? LOST.......

"IF" the three wire connector that you unplugged is mounted on end of motor AWAY from motor base to differential its the speed sensor. You can either replace with new sensor OR leave it unhooked and run cart that way? Remember one thing the speed sensor was mounted for a reason ( to protect from too high RPM's that can destroy a motor and to control Regen ) ITS UP TO YOU, SO TAKE IT FROM HERE?

I would say. It could be the controller since that is what the speed sensor plugs into. I don't know much about how the controller reads the signal from the sensor but my Guess would be the controller is reading the sensor wrong and shutting down power thinking the cart is going to fast.

Did the sensor you took off the cart "look" bad or damaged?

You might take the old sensor to a cart shop and see if they can test it for being bad.

Cheers

Sounds like the controller to me. It won't hurt to unplug it and use the car. This is a Regen2 system. Only the more recent "IQ" system will go into limp mode when it's unplugged. Under normal driving conditions this system will work fine without it and if everything is stock, you'll never reach speeds high enough to damage the motor. These are naturally very slow moving vehicles.
