Newbie...87 electric budget upgrades

I recently bought an 87 club car and I was wanting to just use it as a hunting buggie. Im not looking to put a new motor in it, but I would like to get just a little more torque out of it to be able to move deer and such. I have been lurking for a while and I know a few upgrades...larger battery cables, HD F&R switch and maybe larger coils and maybe controller. Any help on all these upgrades I mentioned would be great such as size and where to purchase. Thank you and sorry for the long read...I get pics as soon as I can

How much are you looking to spend?
Is it just you riding on the cart? and then pulling a deer? or you and friend?

What part of the country are you in? relative flat? mountains?

I have a 36volt 89 club car, and it pulls pretty good without any upgrades. I put a taller turf tire on my cart and pull a little wagon around with no problem. I am not going to amaze anyone with my speed but ole' yellar gets the job done.

I would just do some tests. Get about 100 pounds of sand wrap it in a tarp and pull it around with the cart and see how it does. If you are ok with the effort the cart puts out I would say leave it be.

Just low balling a controller upgrade you are looking at 500 to 600 in controller and wires switches etc. and then a new set of battery to make it a 48v cart which you are looking at another 500 - 600 so a total of about 1200 to do a conversion.

thanks I really appreciate the input, it will never be more than two ppl and mainly flat terrain at the deer lease, I have already ordered new batteries, and was thinking about just putting an aggressive tire in the back so there wont be any more of a strain on the motor, but when I get the new batteries on Ill do some testing with different weight and terrain. Ill let you know how she does, and I might end up leaving her the way she is...

what state are you in?

When you get the new batteries. charge them till the charger goes off. ride it for about 15 mins or so. charge it over night and repeat this for a couple weeks or if you are going to be around the house on the weekend. ride it in the morning and then again at night if you can charge it and let the charger turn off before you ride it again to break the batteries in well. And remember to try not and run them down below 50% charge as it will degrade the life of the batteries.

How old are the batteries that are in it now?

If you are thinking of doing a 48v upgrade when you get new batteries is the time to do it since you can't really add batteries to a pack once you start using them as it will drag the new batteries down.

With your existing 36 volt resistor stock cart the best up grade would be to buy 8 volt batterys, then throw away your resistor set up and go with PB-6 speed control and 300-400 amp solid state controller, solenoid, new 4 gauge cables. I doubt that you will need to go with a HD F&R at this time? Your existing stock motor ( if in good condition ) will out pull a 48 volt motor and give you the torque you need for the least cost.
OR trade in your cart for a later model DS model cart already equipped with 48 volt set up and if thats not enough you can always upgrade as time and money comes along?
