Re: Red wine to help charge batteries?
It has something to do with the acid in wine. It makes for a quick boost but not for the long run. The same thing is true with aspirin. It forms acetylsalicylic acid that gives the batt some extra charge to get going but not good for the longevity.

Re: Red wine to help charge batteries?
It could be that wine added would give some help to start a discharged batterys that needs replacing anyway, but by just waiting awhile even a low battery will build up some surface charge that could do the same thing? By adding wine to a good but discharged battery what damage would it do to a still good battery in the long run? I have seen and some times even tried some stranger things to get a dead battery back to life, but this is something else? I have tried vineger, apple cider, Coke Cola, even battery acid with a lime mix all of which might have given same effect as wine without it helping in anyway I could see? It might help as much to drink the wine and wait for battery to build a surface charge?
In the early years after WW2 I worked with kid that would come to work and within an hour be DRUNK? The boss and I couldnt figure it out as he never went near his auto to get a drink, until one day I caught him drinking a glass of water with a little battery acid mixed in for a spike causing an almost instant drunk effect? I guess we should have hooked him to the starter for instant power? |
