Brakes locking up
The brakes on my DS are locking up with just the slightest pressure on the brake pedal. I have been having battery problems, but I think I have that resolved now, with a few new cable ends, and have used the epsom salt method to restore the batteries. Can weak battery cause the brakes to lock up or should I look for some other problem? The cart will just about throw you out of the front, that's how hard they lock up.

Re: Brakes locking up
your batts have nothing to do with brakes locking up.....jack up the rear and take wheels and drums off see what things look like it could be just an adjustment or you could have a seal leaking and fouling up a brake shoe.......but start by getting in there and looking at them.................

Re: Brakes locking up
Not sure of the year...think around 2002. Ive had it for 2.5 years. IT is lifted. based upon what I have read since I posted this, I think the axle is shifting out of alignment, or one of the break lines is too short because of the lift. I just drove it in reverse and had no problems with the brakes, but going forward had the same locking up issue.

Re: Brakes locking up
Tighten up the axle bolts. I had that problem with mine. They will sometimes loosen up. With the bolts not totally tight the axle will rotate just slightly and in essence shorten the brake cables locking up the brakes. You saying it is lifted and does not do it in reverse, verifies this to me!!

Re: Brakes locking up
My Club is an 03. Just looked up how to determine that via the serial number. Thanks for the tip on the axle. Based upon what I read in the other post, I just put the parking brake on and got behind the cart. With the brake on, when I push forward on the cart, i do notice that the axle rocks forward and it appears to be pulling the driver's side brake cable extremely tight. As the other post indicated, if the motor moves forward with the parkng brake engaged, there is a problem. And, when i looked close enough, I could see that the paint is slightly scraped off on the axle on the top where the lift bracket is attached. I'm going to try tightening up the lift kit u-bolts to see if that helps. If not, I also read where someone put a little longer driver's side brake cable on, and that solved the problem. Hopefully, just an adjustment to the bolts is all that is necessary.

Re: Brakes locking up
ok...so, i made sure the u-bolt nuts were tight..actually tightened just a little. test drove and still having same problem. then, I tried adjusting the brakes by loosening slightly up at the bracket where the two brake lines come together. Still having the same problem. When I put the parkng brake on and rock the cart, the axle still tends to rotate, and it appears the entire u-bolt assembly, leaf springs, etc, are rotating that little bit with the axle. I can see the driver's side brake cable appear to tighten. I've looked on line for the brake extension kit, and have found it at one site. But, can someone explain to me how the extension kit hooks up? From the picture that is posted re: the kit description, its hard t tell just what I'm getting. I may be to the point of taking it to a repair man.

Re: Brakes locking up
Don't take it to the shop just order the extension it pretty self explanatory once you see it. Mine did the same thing I ordered it and problem solved. If you order it and still can't figure out how it works I can take a picture of mine and email it to you.

Re: Brakes locking up
Thanks, Greg. I finally did find a PDF that showed the directions on how to hook the extension bracket up. I think I can handle that with no problem.
