Default DS or Precedent pros and cons

I'm new to the cart scene and need help choosing between the ds or the precedent. I know that I want a 48v cart but don't know the pros and cons of these two carts. I know that I do want it lifted and w\rear seat other than that I'm open to suggestions. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think mine is a 2004 or 05. I have a back seat in mine, but the canopy is too low and would seem uncomfortable for passengers in the back. I would guess there is a way around this!?!?

Both are good carts just make sure that whatever you buy has 8 volt batteries, the precedent had a 12v battery system and some of the ds models around 2006 2007 had the 12v battery system also. you will get more run time with the 8v battery system. I have the ds mine is a 2003 and I think that it gives a smoother ride than the precedent. the ds has an ibeam frame and the precedent is a tubular frame both are aluminum.

What are the 48v motor options for these carts? Is there one that comes standard with either one. Which motor should I look for? I've been told to shy away from the digital models due to cost of repairs.

FBG is telling you right; but I have 2 4-12 volt carts and my wife has a 6-8 volt cart and I would not turn around for the difference. There is a difference in the run time and a conversion kit to switch over from 4-12 to 6-8 but me personally I would not spend the money on this. Neither one is no better than the way the owner is going to keep up the maintence on the batteries; my advice is to contact Tahoe Dawg and he can and will give you the specs on batteries and run time. Hope this might help you out. Good Luck!

The fact of the matter is that the 12 volt setup definitely does not give you as much run time as the 8 volt setup. However, in most cases, it still provides more than enough run time for an individual owner. A golf course may struggle with this configuration if they try to play 27 holes a day with it but as for riding around the neighborhood a couple of days a week I think it will be fine considering the batteries are good. It all falls back on good maintenance. I have a 2006 Precedent with the original 06 batteries and it still discharges at 80 minutes on the discharge machine. (A new set will run about 95) But at the same time, I know good maintenance. Please feel free to contact me anytime with any questions you may have. As for vehicle preference, it's all up to you. Both platforms are great. The DS is more plentiful and more roomy and you'll have an easier time finding a good deal on one. The Precedent has a much softer ride and a tighter turning radius. It's also much easier to access the motor, controller, and front end for maintenance or repairs if needed. One thing about the Precedents that many people may not understand is how well the front end is engineered. You'll hear people say all day long that they dont like them because they've got weak front end components, but in all actuality, although way more simple, it's actually a stronger platform. I've been in the industry for 9 years and have straightened numerous I Beams on DS cars after a front end impact. Never have I seen a Precedent box frame beam get bent. 99% of the time it's only the A-Arm that gets bent. The other 1% of the time it'll take out the spindle as well. The A-Arms are designed to bend upon impact to keep other, more expensive parts from getting bent. It makes repairs so much quicker and easier. But we all know, the best solution for this is to not wreck the thing at all. As for motor options, I prefer the IQ system. It's smooth operating, it's got plenty of power, and it's definitely the fastest of any systems to date. Speed programming will allow you to reach speeds of around 20 miles per hour without a motor or controller upgrade. On a series system it would require an upgrade. Motor and controller upgrades can be expensive. DS models with the IQ system will have a serial number beginning with "AQ" Precedents were never offered with anything except the IQ system until 2008 when the Excel system came out. It's pretty similar and I wouldn't turn it down either. Today's 2011 DS cars are IQ only, where the 2011 Precedents are IQ or Excel. "PQ" or "PH"

I have been in the industry as a Club Car dealer for 9 yrs and the precedent is a great golf car and I have fixed only 1 wreck and it held up superior and was cheaper to fix than a DS model.I do like the DS models as I own one myself,But the precedent is a nice car also.
