Options for changing Precedent programming?

I've been searching and reading posts about how to make a precedent faster. My cart is a country club retiree and has a brand new rear fold down seat installed. Other than that, it's right off of the 18th hole so, I'm sure it is on some sort of standard country club, don't tear the course up mode. I didn't buy it from a true dealer and am really not sure where a real dealer is to go see about getting it programmed differently. Are there other options such as renting or borrowing one of these programmers and doing a DIY on the programming? Does one need training to do this or just the "black box" with some instructions?

How would I go about finding a dealer that can do it if there is no way for me to do it short of buying my own programmer?

From what I have heard you would have to work on a bunch of carts to be worth buying the programmer. Mostly only dealers have them and I doubt very seriously they would loan it. You can call CC and find your nearest dealer. Most will put it up to speed code 3, 14-16mph for a nominal labor charge if not for free. To get speed code 4, 19mph+/- they have to send your serial number to CC and get the code, this varies from $75-$200 from what I hear depending on dealer. What most people consider their best option is a Plumquick purple motor or one similar. Plumquick is a sponsor on the site and they sell a direct bolt on motor replacement that will put you in the 20mph+ range for around $250.

I don't need that kind of speed - my 12 year old has access to this thing - haha. If there are some factory settings that will pep it up a little, that's all I am after. But I don't really want to pay a lot to get that if I don't have to. I'm guessing it's set to a 1 now and I'd like to change it to a 3.

You will need a CC dealer or repair facility that owns the programmer. One of my local shops will do code 3 for free because it only takes about 5 seconds, but I think most will charge something to help cover the cost of the programmer. If you can,t find a dealer call CC and check for a local authorized dealer or repair facility.

Hmm, I see the local guy I bought my DS gasser from listed as a dealer. Not sure how he is going to feel about reprogramming my precedent for me, if he even can, considering I didn't go back to him to trade. They are just way too expensive, though. I basically even swapped my 01 DS for this 06 precedent. It would have cost me over a grand to make the same swap with him.

Yeh, that's where I found it. He is 8 miles away but will likely get pissy because I didn't buy my new one from him. The next closest one is over an hour away.

I considered paying for level 4 code, but the closest dealer was 1.5 hours away. They said that I needed to take the cart to read a code from the cart and bring it back once Club Car sends them the level 4 code to program.
I instead opted for the Speedy Link. It bypasses the 12 MPH speed limit and allows the cart to get close to 20 MPH. It doesn't increase acceleration, it just allows the cart to reach full speed. It seems to also remove the motor brake which I love. I've only had the Speedy Link for a short time, but seems to work well.

When I went to speed code 4, I called the guy down the road that sells used CC's and asked if he had a programer. He did but never had done one before so he called CC and them me. He needed the carts serial and the controlers serial number. He called CC and they sent it to him and then I took the cart to him for the first time and it took about 60 seconds. I don't know why you would have to haul the cart to them 2 times, thats crazy!
