12 Volt Pick-up...???

A 2006 Club car .... 48 volts, I just has the local service center install a set of headights and tail lights ..it seems the techncian picked up his +12 volt feed from the battery on the front left plus side (this battery feeds the negative side of 48v) Is this OK ??? Or is there a better way ....

I tried to use one of the 48-12v downconverters .. had it tied in to the
48v feed off the front two batteries, the 12v output off the converter was fine....
The ON/OFF switch used for the lights was one of these 12v 20amp, with the lite handle when turned on...it has a 12v leg...GD leg and the center is a 12v feed OUT ....Now without even turning on the lights the cart lost all it's power even tho the Precedent volt meter showed 51 volts...I ran it for one mile and the converter smoked....
So off to the service shop!!!

Sounds like something isn't wired properly. Where in Georgia are you located?

Regarding the above here is what I've been told...

Yes its OK to use 12 volt batterys......BUT DON'T LOAD DOWN one battery, for instance ...

If you run lights like up to 50 watts, use #4 battery
Run your yellow running lights off #1 battery
Run your third set of ACC's of battery #3
Run what ever off of battery # 4

Key is to make the ACC drain on all 4 batterys as even as possible...../

Now depending on how heavy the usage you might want to disconnect the batterys and use a 12 volt charger on each battery seperately, so as to bring them all back to the correct even on all batterys starting point....

Does this make sense .... ?

Now to expond on the above ...I pulled the 70 dollar 48 to 12 (10 amp) DC/DC downconverter and found the input end of the fuse block melted ...now I was running 2...25 watt headlights, and 2 led tail lights, and 4 led yellow running lights... The 5 amp fuse was OK ... don't think the amperage load was too high..guess it was a cheap high resistence connection of the glass fuse block. This meltdown tokk place in one mile....

Yeah.. it all makes sense... Your goal is to keep the batteries as close as possible as far as the state of charge is concerned. Your converter should allow you to draw evenly from all four batteries. As for the meltdown... it sounds like you have either tried to pull too much amperage from the converter, or there is a wiring problem somewhere in the system.
