Electrical question
Hey guys, this might sound silly to those that know,... but... if I want to put a toggle switch on my dash that can turn my 48v to 12v reducer off and on what type of switch would I have to get.I would like to put it on the input side from the battery. I have not had any luck trying to find a 48v switch on line or by searching the sponsor's sites. Can I use any toggle type switch or do I need some type of heavy duty switch. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: Electrical question
I tried just simple 12 volt switches and soon found that even a HD 12 volt switch wasn't heavy enough and got very hot? I now use an additional pack voltage 36 or 48 volt solenoid hooked to key switch so whenever key is off power is off to reducer. After having a neighbors NEW CART burn to ground because of a defective reducer and a wife that doesn't remember to turn extra switch off I went to a automatic solenoid setup.
I have had good luck with following companies, when you give them a call they can recommend correct swiches for your HD 48 volt application. Be prepared with amp draw and voltage when calling. Wiring Products.Com Imperial Supplies.Com |

Re: Electrical question
You could also add a relay that turns the reducer on, either by the key switch or a toggle switch

Re: Electrical question
Only problem I found with relays is most wont stand up to long periods of being on and hard to find 48 volt field coil relays? While cart solenoids are made to be on for long periods without burning and have proper field coil voltage. Solenoid cost a little higher but make up for it in life expexanty.

Re: Electrical question
Ive installed alot of relays and never had one fail, even Club Car installs relays on their cars and Ive never replaced one of those.
Both work, I just find the relay is smaller and easier to work with and is meant to do that job. |

Re: Electrical question
Does anyone know where i can fined a 48v relay that would work for a similar application above, I want to have my lights and accessories power source go through a relay instead of the Key switch.

Re: Electrical question
A.D.--Sounds like what you need is a marine switch like ARCITECH--shows site to as it will be heavy enough to shut off power and be spark proof as well so no danger of fire caused by charging etc.
