worth it to fix this up?
hi, i'm brand new to this site. thx for reading. I just bought this beat up club car from an auction. It has no batteries and i'm not sure if the motor works or not. I don't know a lot about golf carts. The serial # is missing, so I'm not sure what year it is. All i know is the motor says "mt320-08, 603, made in Japan." Any help would be great. Thx.

Re: worth it to fix this up?
it looks like anywhere from a 1980 to i believe 85 club car could be little bit newer, does not appear to be in bad condition, try a set of batteries and it should run.nice looking cart not bad at all

Re: worth it to fix this up?
Im guessing that its a 1980-1987 Club Car? Early 4-5 micro speed control box ( White box with RED ends ) shown in picture on top of frame rails.
There is a way to test motor if you want to try ( NOTE ITS VERY DANGEROUS TO DO IF NOT DONE PROPERLY ) Jack up rear axle on FLAT FIRM SURFACE and place jack stands near inside of springs on each side of round axle covers ( make sure tires are clear of ground and anything that could be touched while tire is spinning as power may be strong and spinning fast ) then BLOCK front wheels in front and back sides until its SOLID WITH NO POSSIBLE MOVEMENT. ( Note lost close friend when blocks slipped allowing cart to fall ) Check that tires turn easily as brakes could be dragging or enguaged. Then using ( 2 ) WRENCHES of proper size remove all wires at motor. ( NOTE one wrench holding nut next to motor housing and other on outside to loosen cable). If you turn studs that cables are hooked to from motor you will ruin internal connections and have to repair motor. Mark each cable as you remove them for later installation. Look on motor housing and you will find stamped near each stud ( A-1, A-2, S-1, S-2 ) to corrispond with cables markings unhooked. Using some heavy guage cables or 8-10 guage wiring make the following connections. #1 Jumper across from S-1 and A-2 posts #2 Replace nuts on A-1 and S-2 posts so when touching power wont ruin threads on posts. #3 Connect 12 volt auto battery to A-1 and S-2 posts ( NOTE YOU WILL GET SPARKS EACH TIME YOU MAKE CONNECTION FROM BATTERY SO WEAR SAFTEY GLASSES AND BE SURE NOTHING UNDER CART CAN CATCH FIRE LIKE GRASS ETC ) If the motor turns at this time its OK ( NOTE DO NOT ALLOW MOTOR TO SPIN UP HIGH AS YOU COULD BLOW WINDINGS AND POSSIBLY "EXPLODE" WITH LOOSE PARTS FLYING ) I have seen parts sticking up through the seat and cart body when this happens and I WOULD NOT WANT TO BE NEAR CART WHEN THIS HAPPENS?? If the motor turns then you can go ahead and purchase batterys. Look at STICKIES ABOVE "FOR Golf Cart Battery Comparison" Remember a cheap battery OR A AUTO BATTERY in a golf cart is like a 1 cylinder motor connected to a loaded truck and batterys will go bad quickly and you will get NOWHERE. You will need 6-6 volt batterys hooked in series to make a total pack of 36 volts. Again look at STICKIES ABOVE FOR "Golf Cart Battery Maintenance" ALSO YOU MUST CHARGE BATTERY BEFORE USING FOR FIRST TIME AND NEVER ALLOW BATTERYS BELOW 70% AND RECHARGE AFTER EACH USE. BATTERYS NEED A PERIOD OF ABOUT 20 TO 30 RECHARGES TO GET TO FULL POWER OR UNTIL BATTERYS ARE BROKE IN. Note you need a single float temperature correcting scale HYDROMETER ( NOT A MULTI FLOAT ANTIFREEZE UNIT ) AND A DIGITAL VOLT METER to maintain your batterys properly and give them good life. ALSO USE NOTHING BUT DISTILLED WATER ( NEVER TAP WATER ) and keep level about 1/4"-1/2" max above plates in batterys. HOPE THIS HELPS? |

Re: worth it to fix this up?
Hey OLD MEC,
thx for the help, but could u answer me another question? you said to hook up the jumper according to the markings on the motor (a1,a2,s1,s2). as you can see in the picture, there are no labels next to the studs. Do you know which ones are which? Thx. John |
