Welcome to BGW!

The charger should be automatic and shut off when the batteries are fully charged. As far as how often...I try to charge mine after every use but some will have different opinions. Check your cables at least once a month and make sure they are clean and tight...if not you will eventually have trouble. Only fill them with distilled water BEFORE charging. Fill till there is about 1/4 inch above the plates.

4 12 volt batteries wont have the run time of 6 8 volt batteries...

Any battery system out there will run two full rounds of golf on a full charge with normal electronics.

This is more educated guessing than science, but I would say that 8 6vs have about a 10 mile driving range higher than 6 8vs.. Which is why Bad Boy Buggies etc.. are using 6 8vs...

so I would imagine you would face something similar with the 4 12s.
