Default 95 electric won't go

I have a 95 club car electric that just quit working. If you put in reverse the reverse horn does work as well as when you press pedeal it tries to go. You can hear a click. Not sure what I am suppose to check. I wanted to try with 6 gauge wire test I read about on here but I don't know where to get or where to connect it. I tried to read and figure out as I can usually fix things but this is very new to me and I need some very elementary directions. Have checked every wire and connections I can see from under seat as well as underneath cart. Any help is much appreciated. Have a great weekend!!
Also wanted to check battery for voltage but don't know how to do that either. so please help thanks again

1st welcome, if your not sure what your doing and please don,t take this personal you might want to find someone you trust to help.........you can do more damage to the cart real quick, now if its just a matter of needing things explained thats different........can you check this stuff yourself?.................................

Hi Angie,

Welcome to the forum. You'll find answers to most of your questions here - lots of knowledge.

If all the wiring is clean and tight, and the cart tries to move, the first suspect would be a battery issue. Do you have a volt/ohm meter? If not, go to Harbor Freight Tools, Radio Shack, Autozone, etc. and get yourself one. Set it to 20 VDC. Touch the red probe to the + post, and the black one to the - post. If the battery has 3 cells, you should have at least 6 volts, 4 cells - 8 volts, 6 cells - 12 volts. This is assuming they have been recently charged. Check the water in all cells, and add DISTILLED water if the plates are exposed. Hopefully, your charger is working OK!

If your batteries check out OK, it could get complicated, but more than likely, it's something simple. Was there an odor of burnt electrical?

Is your cart a 48 or 36 volt?

Sounds to me like the solenoid has gone bad.If you put it in gear and press the pedal down and the solenoid clicks and the car bumps forward and then stops its a bad solenoid.YOU must disconnect the main battery cables when servicing the car ALWAYS.If you put a solenoid on you need to put on a new diode also and make sure it is orientated in the right direction.

Thanks for the responses. Yes I know I can repair it. The problem is without some directions or a manual it makes it hard for me. I believe I am capable of repairing this. So I am on the rode to auto zone now. will check out batteries and let you guys know. thanks

I gather you are going to jumper the solenoid? Jack up one rear tire off the ground and very carefully install a short battery cable from one large solenoid terminal to the other. Then turn the key on ~ in gear~ test the gas peddle? Nothing?

I have a 1992 electric club car we replaced the batteries, now when we drove it got very hot behind the seat and then it stopped. The back of the controller caught on fire. Also if you leave the key on it tries to move by itself? Already checked the battery wire diagram it is correct. It is a 36 volt system.

welcome......if its trying to move with the key on the soleniod is bad and staying energized, you can try tapping the soleniod and see if problem goes away it might or moght not but you should replace the soleniod as even if it does go away its going to happen again.......................
