resistor group assembly
i have a new (to me) 1997 club car, 48v electric. it is very slow. the batteries check out very good and i measure 51.7 v when not plugged in. i just changed all the 6 gauge battery cables to 2 gauge. it is better but still low (hilly area).
can i modernize the resistor group assembly to a newer type and get more torque or speed out of it? i went through the OBC with the 6 ga and doubled up around the OBC with the 2 ga. |

Re: resistor group assembly
Something is wrong here. While CC did make a resistor cart in '97 it was 36 volts. All of the 48v carts were solid state speed control. Can you answer 2 questions about the cart?
Do you have a row of resistor coils behind the batteries? Does the charger plug have 2 flat blade prongs or 3 round prongs? |

Re: resistor group assembly
the resistor coil is five coils attached to a piece of what appears to be micarta with two power leads also attached.
the controller (I think its the controller) is black. i don't know the history of the cart for a fact only what the seller told me. he did say the cart was a total rebuild. |

Re: resistor group assembly
You have a Gen 1 car and its needs to be changed to a Gen 2 with an upgrade kit.The controllers are non rebuildable. Its a fairly easy job as I did one about 2months ago.

Re: resistor group assembly
A gen ! car was like a afterbirth of a good clubcar and a Gen II is what evolved out of it.

Re: resistor group assembly
i found some electrical diagrams for both the regen and non regen cart of my vintage. it appears that my car is a hybrid of both.
i have the resistor coil but not the solenoid attached to them! what can i do to straighten out the car and to upgrade it to a gen II car? thanks again for your help and advise. |

Re: resistor group assembly
I'm confused ~ again Can you post pictures of the cart, the resistor group, the battery bay, etc? Thank you.

Re: resistor group assembly
If it has resistor coils it has a v glide box the wiper in the box probadly isn't hitting the last contact which would be the fastest speed I've seen these carts 48 volt and 36 volt
