electric problem

i have a new (to me) 1997 club car, 48v electric. it is very slow. the batteries check out very good and i measure 51.7 v when not plugged in. i just changed all the 6 gauge battery cables to 2 gauge. it is better now, but still slow (hilly area).
can i modernize the resistor group assembly to a newer type and get more torque or speed out of it? i went through the OBC with the 6 ga and doubled up around the OBC with the 2 ga.
what would happen if i just remove the resistor assembly?

Do you have a gen 1 car as that what it sounds like, give us some pics of the controller. Is it silver casing or is it a black casing?

if you want to gain some more speed you need to change all 6 gage cables not just battery cables................as soon as the current from 2 gage hits 6 gage its just a bottleneck you need to do them all........................

Don't want to hurt any feelings at all... but I'm gonna be honest here. The best thing for you to do is to rip that system out and convert it to another. The Generation 1 Regen cars were the worst setup Club Car has ever used. They had a problem with them from the day they came out until the time they redesigned them. There were entire fleets that would "Wake Up" for no reason and actually jerk back and forth while parked. There have been all kinds of problems with those controllers. There is a Regen 1 to Regen 2 conversion kit that is fairly simple to install, however, the speed won't increase. The resistor doesn't do anything for speed. I would recommend converting to an IQ system. You can re-use the same motor. You'd need a component mounting plate, OBC, Wire harness, Controller, and MCOR conversion kit. It would be expensive, no doubt about it... But so is a Regen 2 conversion kit. Atleast you'd gain some speed with a conversion. The IQ car is capable of almost 20 Miles per hour with a simple speed increase via the IQDM programmer.

Why does he say "resistor group" I would take that as more than one.

Good question but I'm just assuming he's referring to the Dynamic Braking resistor.

I asked him in another thread .... & it would help clear this up if he could provide a picture of the resistor group on his 48v CC He might have a conversion of sorts???
