2000 Club Car -sale it or keep it?
I have a region 2000 Club Car with a 400 amp alltrax controller, with a 15 HP green motor from buggiesunlimited. I do have up graded cables as well. This is the new motor that was replaced during the summer. The old motor burned up due to a bad solenoid/potentiometer, I'm guessing? However, the new motor that is in the cart is running very hot to the touch. Just like the old motor did before it died. I thought the problem was corrected with a new potentionmeter and a new solenoid. I trying not to burn another motor up. My question is... should I sale this cart? or can this be corrected with a standard form motor and controller. Can I make this golf cart reliable, or will this be a on going project? I put to much money in this cart not to enjoy it!

We normally never ride more then two adults and two kids.Total weight 400.lbs. only used to ride the neighborhood. I was told the motor was a high torque, high speed motor. Im ready to go all stock, any suggestions.

Re: 2000 Club Car -sale it or keep it?
When you purchased motor did you get a "Upgrade KIT from Buggies" and if so did they furnish the 400 amp controller or did you just get a motor, solenoid and potentiometer? and left the 400 amp Alltrax controller that was it already on cart and then you added complete set of 4 guage new cables ? A 15 HP motor sounds like you need a higher amperage controller?? I looked at D&D MOTOR SYSTEMS site and if your cart has lift, larger tires, back seat and is run on flat solid ground they show "500 amp Alltrax controller" recomended?

I already had the 400 amp controller and I didn't get any type of upgrade package. You may have a good point. However, before I put any more money in a high dollar controller I would probably buy a stock motor for alot less. Im now looking for the easiest fix. What do you think? and thanks for your input!

Re: 2000 Club Car -sale it or keep it?
Just to confirm three points #1-when you did cable up grade did you replace ( ALL 6 guage cables or just the battery cables )? This could possibly be cause of excess heat if you high hp motor didnt have a minimum of 4 guage ( according to D &D )? This is possible fix if motor cables were not replaced? #2-Did you replace solenoid with stock or HD 400 amp unit? #3- are you aware if cart has high speed gears ( 8 to 1 rather than 12-1 stock gears ) as this could put even more extra start up load on motor, wiring etc?
Then if you have correct cables and solenoid and stock gears I would think rather than put anymore money into cart ( stock motor ) I would sell it and get another more trouble free unit? Or if you really want to keep this cart you could replace motor and try and recoupe some of your costs by selling motor as its really not that old? |

Re: 2000 Club Car -sale it or keep it?
Im not sure on the wires size going to the motor, I will check. That does make sense. Although It sure would be nice to have a trouble free ezgo or an early model club cart. Thanks for the info again!
