AMD 3255 motor
Have a friend who has this motor on his cart (AMD GCT132550 on the link below).
http://www.golfcarttrader.com/Electr...Club%20Car.htm I have had this motor in my hand and it's a very heavy duty built series motor with wide flat ribbon style field coil windings. But there doesn't seem to be much information out there other than it's 48v 3.75hp torque motor. With a stock 300amp series controller it will run right at 19mph. But he wants to increase torque and want's to put a 600 amp GE controller on it. We're trying to determine if it can handle that much power but like I said can't see to find much information about it. Any one have any thoughts on if this could handle the amperage or does anyone have any first hand experience with these motors? Thanks, CJ2 |

Re: AMD 3255 motor
Can't offer anything specific on that motor, but I can help with the theory end. Controllers do not MAKE AMPS, they ALLOW AMPS to flow based on motor demand and battery pack capability.
If you were to park a cart against a brick wall and apply throttle, the motor will try and draw amps from the pack based on it's design and windings. If the controller is a stock 275 amp unit, that's all that will go to the motor. If the controller is 500 amp rated, 500 amps will get to the motor. If the motor can handle this, all is fine. If the motor was not wound for this amp flow it will destroy itself. This is the reason most vendors want to sell you a motor/controller combo, because the products are matched to each other. Doing it the other way may/may not work well, it depends on how far out of spec each component is. HTH. |
