brake replacement 1980 club car
i have a 1980 CC,,runs great no brakes. I pulled off the drums and then disconnect the brake pads and other compents. Questions is how do I removed the hub off of the axle to get the brake compents off? I am going to have to replace everything, MC, brake lines etc.

Re: brake replacement 1980 club car
You really should be able to remove anything needed off brake backing plate without removing backing plate itself from differential but if you feel the need? Been long time since worked on Caroche ( three pedals ) differential but there should be a snap ring inside axle housing that holds axle and pressed on bearing in place? IF I AM correct you need a pair of offset snap ring pliers to reach behind axle flange and compress ring enough to remove it from housing? Then with luck axle and bearing will slid right out?? If not you will need to rent a slide hammer axle tool to connect to wheel studs and knock it loose for removal?
HOPE I AM CORRECT ON THIS AXLE? If I AM WRONG then you would need to LUB WITH BLASTER brand or similar product on axle splines, let sit for some time and then after removing axle nut ( DO NOT POUND ON SHAFT END ) and again using slide hammer on wheel studs remove flange from axle? |

You dont have to pull the axle to get the brakes off, or the wheel cylinder, it will all come off with the axle in place.

Re: brake replacement 1980 club car
Hey,
You are both correct. I was able to use some PB Blaster and got the wheel cylinders off. Everything is cleaned up and I have ordered a new master cylinder, wheel cylinder and brake shoes. Will put in new brake lines as well. The previous owner cut off the parking brake pedal so I will not be reconnecting. |
