IMHO, I would go with #2 cable, do it once and be done with it, and you will be ready for any other upgrade you do in the future, replace all the wires as already stated.

Our experience is that the delivery system must be upgraded as a whole. The smallest conductor will offer the highest resistance. This means that ALL the cables and the F&R must be capable of passing the same amperage. You should find a cable manufacture that has experience and test results from R&D with this sort of thing so that you can rest assured that they also know how to make solid corrosion free connections that will give years of trouble free service ........ Steer clear of any company telling you to upgrade just part of your system or some of your cables. We have done extensive heat testing on these systems and found terminal temps over 200 degrees that decreased nearly 50% when the proper sized component or cable was installed.
