High Beams, low beams Well sorta...
I have some folks that have two 16 year old kids and each have their own golf cart to get back and forth to school. Good kids, not abusive at all, but I do all of their maintenance for low cost as the mother has lost her job from the economy and the dad is sick.
Well long story short, on one of their carts the headlight burnt out, it's an H3 but couldn't find a bulb locally with the same wattage. So I had to buy two new 55w bulbs. The previous bulbs were 35w. Most carts around here don't have a voltage reducer and run their lights on 16v as they are just to dimm otherwise. But with the 55w on 16v, the lights are quite bright! But on 8v's to dim, well because of their situation buying a reducer is not feasible. So I rewired their lights completely. Took out the normal on/off pull switch and spliced the main power wire together. Took the negative lead to to the pack and put it to the common lead on a single poll double throw toggle switch, where center is off, toggle one way - on, toggle the other way is on. Took a negative lead from the same battery that the positive is on to one of the posts and another lead from the next battery (ie 16v) to the other lead of the toggle. So now they have high and low beams, sorta, toggle one way the circuit completes at 8vs, toggle the other way and you have highs at 16vs. A cheap fix for them. |

CHEAPJEEP2-I have wired several that way and it has worked good so far? Had one cart that blew one bulb because he had just charged battery pack and unplugged and turned lights right on and POW? In other carts I have used LED bulbs with much lower watts output and got same affect, but much more expensive?
