Shock Question
I just finshed installing a allsports 6" lift kit on my 2004 Precedent. I noticed that when i was reinstalling the front shocks that dont have any tension in them. When I push it up it stays there and when I pull it down it stays there. Arent they supposed to be springy? or are they supposed to be that way?

Re: Shock Question
To often people think a shock is part of spring action when in fact stock shocks only function is to dampen up and down motion to help eliminating bounce. If you had a long travel lift it includes "spring over shocks" that would try and extend all the way when loose causing lift and then includes up and down motion dampening.

Re: Shock Question
Old Mec you hit the nail on the head...... I had to find that out the hard way years ago and $45 later for a new set of shocks. So then I had a spare set. Haha

Re: Shock Question
Unless leaking, shocks seldom need replacement.

Re: Shock Question
so if it goes in and stays in, its not bad. It just needs tension in bothe directions? what if I want my to push out, where would I find those, I know they do on a car when you install new ones.

Re: Shock Question
I've installed shocks on many cars and never had them push out by there self, unless they have a coil spring around the out side of them, just like a cart shock

Re: Shock Question
i just replaced front spring bushings on my 97 ds. the drivers side shock would push the a-arm back down when lifted, but the passenger side side would stay in place when lifted. the passenger side was a lot easier to manipulate than the drivers. am i wrong in assuming that the passenger shock is bad?

Re: Shock Question
sonicj I assume you have the shocks off the cart, also do they have a spring around the outside of the shock?
