Chargers gone wild
Hey i'm a newbie to this forum and to golf carts in general. I believe i have a charger problem. I just recently got a 1999 36 volt club car. It had dead batteries. I replaced them with reconditioned batteries. (That was all i could afford at this time.) The cart moves forward and reverse fine, but when i went to put the charger on it it went crazy. It would go from 0 to 20 amps and sit there for a while. Then do it again off and on 3-4 times until it would trip the breaker. One time it charged at 20 amps for 20 min. or so. Then went to 0 and wouldn't move. Do yall think it could be a charger problem or batteries? Can i take the charger apart and get parts to replace it or just buy a new one. Sorry for the long first post, but trying to learn as I go. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to BGW
If it's trippin the breaker chances are good it's battery issue. Make sure you have all the batteries wired in series and not 1 or more in parallel. |

Thanks for those ideas, but i double checked the batteries and they are wired correctly. I checked the voltage at the batteries and they were all 6.2-6.4 volts. Could there be anything else i'm missing?

I found a new battery a while back with polarity reversed and this was causing same problem? Check with digital volt meter for correct polarity on each battery.
Go to Lester Electric site and type in charger number for testing as it could be short in control circuit or diode inside charger if not battery problem. YES PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. |
