I read 58.3 is the cut off voltage.... but every meter reads different and several guys say theirs went to 63v before shutting off..... I would pull the plug at 64

So like I said before I put a DXC400 in after finding no issues at all that would have caused this and everything is working great. But it's not charging quite right as I have already mentioned, before this event, the charging was perfect worked like a champ even though my batteries are 4 years old.

So yesterday I reset the OBC and did a very thorough reading with my hydrometer. Most of the cells were ok and where I would expect them for the age and charge. But I did have couple of cells in two different batteries that were indeed reading bad. I had a new battery sitting on the shelf so I installed it on the worst battery and now it's charging better but still suspect. It goes to 2 amps and sits for hours, the charge got to 58.4 but then dropped back to 57.2, so i suspect the other battery is bad as well and needs replaced.

BUT here is my question. I never had ANY issues charging at all until this happened with my controller. So I don't understand why my batteries are all of sudden are having problems, I just don't understand that.

I can't even see how if a battery had a short it would have taken out the controller.... I am really scratching my head here...

I'm not sure about your charger but I believe they need to be at 2.4v per cell (57.6v) or above to shut down with a full charge, anything below that will keep the charger on.
A shorted battery will not damage anything, it will just cause a low voltage situation. It's basically just like taking all or part of the battery out of the circuit.

I agree so that is why I can't figure out why I all of a sudden have battery issues, I would say it is a coincident, but I don't believe in them.

Ok update it all makes sense now....

Talking this through with a few folks at my supplier and Alltrax

I'll make a long story short.... remember how I also said I now have charging issues.

Well, I am victim of a lightning strike. Last Monday some serious storms came through and rocked the entire place. Lots of lighting, and I found out that some of my neighbors lost some components.

Here is what happened, power surge from lightning surged the charger and into the OBC, creating an Over-voltage condition that in-turn took out the controller and the OBC.

At least I now know.

I agree the bad batterys wouldnt have caused the controller failure, charger and maybe OBC? SORRY BUT GLAD in a way you found the reason for your problems? Sorry for your loss of parts but happy you found a solution to what caused them? I have a very small home and have a 100 amp ( full home wiring ) protection as here in deep south Texas we get lots of lightening and even more power surges with back up local generators. Prior to getting protection had 2 TV's, lap top computer, and a stereo system blown?
