Problem with new batteries
Just put new batteries in my 97 club car. I read the proper break in procedure so I charged them completely after install and the next day I took it for a spin for about 15min then plugged it back in. The meter read low. My charger goes from 0-5-10-15-20. 0 being fully charged. It was on 15, and then I just took it out for another 15min and it read 15 when I plugged it in again. Do I have a problem, or do the batteries need time to break in?
EDIT: I also took a volt meter and got 42.5V. I used the main POS+ and then a ground on a battery. Is that right? Thanks |

Re: Problem with new batteries
You're doing fine, assuming it's a 36v cart.

Re: Problem with new batteries
No its 48V, and I'm reading 42.5V after the 15-20min of riding

Re: Problem with new batteries
Something is not hooked up right here travis.
Note that when the charger is finished it will shut off, the first few cycles can take 10-12 hours. Check the voltage at the charge port. what do you get there? |

Re: Problem with new batteries
A 48v cart should have nearly 51v when fully charged. Check your battery wiring and/or your charger.

Re: Problem with new batteries
Before we go into that.... Humor me.... can you check the voltage at the charger port on the cart? just test where you plug the charger into the cart.....

Re: Problem with new batteries
Listen to scottyb, check at the charge port first.
42.5v is less than dead and indicates to me there is something wrong with your meter, where you are measuring it or 1 battery is in backwards. |

Re: Problem with new batteries
Yeah that's what I am thinking or the charger wires are connected to only 5 batteries from the port.... anything less than 48 at the charge port is a red flag on a new battery install

Re: Problem with new batteries
Checked at the plug and was getting 46V. But one thing I was not doing right was checking the proper places on the batteries. I went from the main POS on the passenger side to the main NEG on the driver side and was reading 51V. It just has me confused on why when I plug it in it is on the 15 on the charger after just 10-15min of ride time
