Battery Problem?

This is my problem. Have 06 cclub car, 48 volt. Have december 2009 batteries. Bought cart in febuary 2010. First elec cart ever owned. Cart was running much slower than when i bought, with very noticible decrease in speed on slight inclines. (noticed getting worse over last couple of weeks) took to shop and they added alot of acid to first battery in series and last in series. the other four had quite a bit added as well. (i did not know i was supposed to check batteries! STUPID!) anyway, they said to charge for 48 hours to see if it built charge, then unplug and try to drain batteries by running. put on charge again for 48 hours and if i did not see a noticible difference in performance, that i would be buying a new set of batteries. Does this sound right? if so, and i have to buy new batteries, which is better trojan or deka? it currently has deka. thanks for any and all help.

I have seen batteries killed in 18 mos with no water added. My guess is even if they do come back it won't be to their full potential.

thats what im afraid of! thanks, do u want to contribute to the fund? lol. since that may be the case and if it is i am going to get tomorrow so i can use this weekend in the woods, whichbatteries would you buy, taking price out of the equation.

I would select the battery with the greatest amperage storage capacity... amperage is stored in the lead plates... the more lead the more storage ....... buy them by weight.

Boy, that was a costly lesson! Trojan has had some issues lately. I think they are cutting cornors to keep price down and profit high. I have a huge battery dealer near me thet sells most major cart batteries and they told me they have had the best luck with US Batteries. Said they have had the top pop off several of the Trojans when they were moving them around. I have never had Deka so I can't speak for them but they are supposed to be good. Compair them to the US Batteries. Brake them in right! Use the info on this site about barrery brake-in and care and they will be good for years. Most important!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT install your new batteries and jump on ant give them a test run!!!!!!!!!! Install them and put the charger on them and let it finish the charge before you ever use them! It will take a long time (15 hours or so) for the first several charges. Check the water often and keep them charged.

I really do not believe there is that much difference in one major brand to another except weight, the Crown 225ah weights 2 pounds more than a Trojan 105 and costs less. That makes the CR225 a bargain.
I think cheap batteries well maintained outlast the best batteries abused

Scotty and Colby, thanks for the info, especially about the break in scenario. Noone has ever mentioned that! At any rate, there is light at the end of the tunnel, the place i bought the cart at is stepping up (without me raising cain!) They are going to replace batteries with trojans free of charge. If that solves problem, then they are mine, if not then I have to return with cart and have fixed. So......thought that was pretty cool. At any rate, I really appreciate the advice and info. Would it be alright once they are installed if I ran the cart 100 yrds? I would know immediately if this is the issue. Thanks again!

You won't hurt anything if you drive around for less than 1/2 hour, just make sure you charge them every time you drive it for more than 15 minutes.
Do not leave the cart in a discharged state, batteries have the best longevity when kept at full charge.

Then Trojan is your best way to go!!!!!!! Don't run it at all is best. I know you will have to drive it to and on your traler, but thats it!!! Read on this forum about battery brake-in! I think Scotty posted it. The new batteries will not be at full streingth untill 15-20 charges. Treat them right and they will treat you right!
