Charging cycle
How long should a charge cycle take if batteries are low? I think I have read where the OBC should time-out if batteries charge longer than 16 hours? What I have is a 07' CC DS with 48 volts(6-8 volt) system and a powerdrive2 charger. My cart has a upgraded motor D&D blue motor and a 350 amp curtis controller with 4 gauge wires. I have read the powerdrive manual in the stickies but that isn't helping me much. My batteries are 2010' and I know they are good and my charger charges them fine. My problem is the charger will not shut off and never gets lower than 5 amps on the charger. After charging 16 hours it will still be on 5 amps and I will unplug it. If I wait an hour and check with volt meter I have around 52 amps across pack. Can any of you help out a newbie? I have tried a friends charger with the same results but not sure if his charger is bad or not. He is to tight to buy batteries for his cart so his never cuts off for him when charging.Thanks in advanced.....

Good you have a voltmeter. THe book says cut off voltage for the automatic charger is 58.3v many carts have run as high as 63 volts before the cut off was reached.
If after 16 hours you are not at 58.3 - 63 volts then you either have a battery or charger problem. I suspect a bad battery ~ your friends charger confirms it.... |

Scottyb, I was thinking 52 volts was 100% state of charge? Does the OBC have a timer on them to shut the charger off after a certain time period? I have checked each battery and get 8.7 volts on each after charging for 12-16 hours. Do you think I should let charger run longer? Thanks

Let it sit overnight with no charger and check your voltages, then if it's still 52v, you're good to go. As Scotty mentioned, the charger in it's finishing stage should reach at least 58v-63v, put a meter on it when it's charging after 12 hours.
