Default Cable Installation Results?

Decided to custom make my own 2ga cables for my 08 CC Precedent. Result were favorable. Couple things I noticed for sure:

1. a touch of added torque
2. gets to top speed a little faster (but no increase in top speed)
3. Most importantly motor and cables are cool to the touch after prolonged high speed runs, unlike original 6ga cables which were warm.

thanks for all your advice guys. This thing is now begging for a hs controller. Thats the next project!

Planning on replacing all my cables soon (not sure the gauge yet still need to make some other decisions and do some planning). Question: Did you have to remove the body on the cart to upgrade your cables?

No not at all. Just replace the cables over the batteries and the controller cables. Basically fish the two cables through the back to motor. Follow stock cables. Since I did not need original 6ga cables anymore I just cut them between the controller and motor. Just made it a little easier. But do not necessarily have to do that. Just REMEMBER to leave original 6ga cable going THRU the OBC which is necessary. If you have any questions you can PM me when you are about to get started or actually while doing it as a member did the same for me. FYI- I have a CC Precedent buy your ds should be the same.

Great... I have a wiring diagram and am looking through it. There are a ton of wires on these carts... but I guestimated that the wires I need to replace are the thick ones that have two ends (i.e. crimped with rounded ends for the bolts to go through) - and basically involve the batteries, motor, controller, etc. All the other wires seem too small to consider or go into one of the components. You are probably laughing at my description by now (if not be my guest!) - but as a non-electrician this is the only way I can describe it. I'm a computer programmer by trade so all this sounds like greek at first - too bad this stuff is not in computer code or I would be able to figure it out fairly easily!

Nothing to laugh about. As a computer programmer, Im sure you can bring good information. Just search and ask questions. I'm in the same boat but have learned enormously from these guys. Your right, the two thicker cables. In my cc precedent they are the green and white ones. These must be replaced when going to upgraded cables. The other two thinner cables connect from controller to motor stay the same. But remember you have to change the rest of the 6ga cables as well. The ones that go from battery to battery, red pos cable that goes to solenoid, small cable from solenoid to controller, etc..

CCstretch Welcome to BGW. Yes you only need to upgrade the larger 6 ga wires. But you must replace all of them. Leaving one is like not changing any.

Easy when you made your own cables did you pass a larger cable through the OBC then crimp on a terminal? I don't have an OBC but I understand the hole is big enough for a larger cable but not a cable end.

Look at it this way:

There are 3 sizes of wire in a sparky cart, high-amp cables that drive the cart, medium-amp cables that charge the cart, and low-amp cables that control the cart components. When upgrading, we only need to switch out the high-amp cables. The others are not as critical.

I ran 2ga cable from that last neg battery terminal bypassing the OBC straight to the controller. I left stock 6ga cable as is running thru OBC. So I have 2 cables connected to the battery terminal and controller but one going through OBC.

Honestly... this forum is about the coolest thing I have seen in a while. A lot of knowledge and expertise and guys that just want to help. Basically, I work, work some more, and then work late at night to support my family. My 96 CC cart was purchased just for fun for the family - but I swear the BUG HAS BITTEN me with this thing. The guy that sold me the cart said to be careful... that owning a cart would be addictive. Who would have thought? He was right... and from what I see it is not just me! Thanks to all for the info so far!!

I am about to upgrade my battery cables and high amp cables as well. Getting ready to put my cart up on jack stands for the winter so I can do some upgrades and this is just one of them.

Can you buy these 2 or 4 ga cables pre-made at Autozone, Rural King, or Tractor Supply?
