Mounting a DCX 400 on a Precedent

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone here has installed a dcx400 controller on their Precedent. I noticed on the alltrax website that "The DCX 300 and 400 replace the Curtis 1204 short heat sink at 6.5" in length (165.1mm)" Is this right? Do I remove the heat sink completely? Does anyone have pictures of their install? Thanks.

I added the larger DCX 600 to my Precedent. Had to drill and tap some new holes in the heat sink. it fits fine and runs cool to the touch. Also added holes for the HD solenoid.
I have not mounted the smaller 400, but it should fit fine.

DO NOT remove heat sink as its purpose is just that to keep controller cool and without it your new controller is automatically out of warentee.

Thanks Old Mec, I just didnt sound right to me. I'll have to drill and tap some new holes as tej said but I will leave the heatsink intact.

Tej, wondering if you could provide us with some pics as their are not many members with CC Precedents with your type of set up. Im almost about to install my Alltrax 500 which is the same size as a 600. Wouldnt think that the Alltrax could be installed the same position as original Curtis bc of its size, therefore, would like to see how you fit yours. Also, what motor are your running? Is your controller programmed at 100% capacity? thx.

I agree, even the DCX400 is larger then the stock controller. I couldn't imagine getting a larger one to fit.

TEJ, Did you install between the batteries or in rear by motor?? Did you rearrange the heat sink? I find it highly highly impossible to mount a 600 directly over stock positioning of heat sink. Pics please??

I was able to drill new holes to mount both the controller and solenoid in between the batteries and used the original heat sink. Hopefully, the picture helps.
I am running a Plum Quick motor without a lift kit and 4 ga wires. Plenty of torque and speed.
I have monitored the controller with my laptop and never seen over 475 amps.
I have the controller set to 100% current and voltage. With the turbo on I can spin the tires. No wheelies....
The cart is a 2007 Precedent with new 12v batteries. Range and speed is more than enough for me. Next upgrade will be disk brakes.

Very nice, now I'm a believer. Did you have to rearrange and drill new holes into the heat sink or is it in the same place? Also, is the Controller straight up and down vs at an angle like the original controller? Do you know what your top speed is? Any problems with motor or controller "heating up"? Really appreciate your help!

I did drill and tap new holes for both the controller and solenoid. The contoller is in vertical and not at an angle. the controller id a tad longer than the heat sink, but it still works. I can hit 28.4 mph on straight and level, but it takes awhile. 26 mph is pretty quick. I am running 10" tires and only 18.8" OD. I did adjust the front end and it helped about 1.5 mph.
Once I put in the 4 ga wires and made sure all connections were clean and tight, I have no heat problems. I actually run 2 ga welding wire to and from the motor (it was free so why not)
Sometimes it is a little jerky at slow (less than 10 mph) speeds with two people. Might need a new MCOR.
