Where to start
Just picked up a 99 cc DS with6 8 volts it was set up about 2 months ago
( Stopped Moving I am sure). Wanting first to bring it back to life and 2 add some goodys. I checked the batteries 5 of them are on 7.5 volts 1 has 3.5 volts. Most cables need replaced but I do have a set of #4 cables. My plans were to baking soda the batterie are and wash. Replace the cables and see if it will charge and move at all. Is there any other concerns I should have or any thin I should check or change. How fast is a stock 99 and what is the first step to turn it up. |

Re: Where to start
So it turned out to be a 99? I would go over everything and then charge and check. As for upgrades depends if you are going to lift it or not but i would say either motor or controller is a good place to start. Good Luck!!

Re: Where to start
check the water levels in the batteries prior to charging. add distilled water to any cells that are low. the charger should boil the cells which helps bring them back to life. this takes some time (up to 15 or so hours). check final voltages again a few hours later.
stock will be between 12 & 14mph-ish. -sj |

Re: Where to start
Congrats on the new project! How much did he come down when it turned out to be a 1999 instead of a 2003? When I got mine back in November, one battery had a melted post which I repaired (thanks to BGW) and replaced all the cables with 4 ga. After that it was check/fill/charge batteries, then pull them out and clean up the battery cage. As far as upgrades, people around here sure seem to like that PQ motor

Re: Where to start
You got an excellent deal.... Be careful when using baking soda.... If it gets inside a battery it'll ruin it for life. The best thing to use is a pressure washer.

Re: Where to start
The best upgrade to do first is find a used 36 volt motor and install it. That will get you some good speed. Then you can consider a controller upgrade. Nice find!!

Re: Where to start
Do you change just the motor? Where is a good place to look for a motor?

Re: Where to start
Yup, just the motor. I would try craiglist, or in your area southeasttexas.com. If you can't find one there you can try your local cart shops for a used one. That cart stock probably goes 14 or so. 36v motor will increase by 25 percent.
