electric club car shutters
My club car, when you push on the accelerator starts to "shutter". The more you push on the accelerator the less it will move. You have to slowly accelerate through the "shutter" to get up speed. The speed is drastically reduced when the pedal is all the way pushed down. It happens in both the reverse and foward direction. My cart is 48volts. I have cleaned the contacts on the terminals and it still shutters.
The cart has been sitting for about a year in the garage and I have kept up the charge on the batteries every month. Any ideas on why this "shuttering" is happening? Thank you. |

Maybe a bad battery, 1 bad cell will cause this.
I would do a hydrometer test or load test on the individual batteries. |

What is a hydrometer test? I have changed out transmissions, axles and other misc things on cars but I regret to say that I am unfamiliar with batteries. Thanks.

They should be be found at any auto parts store. Check your voltage of the combined battery voltage with a voltmeter. Below a certain percentage, the cart will do as you described. I had to move a Club Car today that had a combined voltage, with load, of only 31 and it did the same thing. It's probably time for new batteries. For each cell that tests bad you lose volts. A little more information needed for in depth troubleshooting.
Cart year ? 36 or 48 Volt cart ? Do U own a digital Volt meter ??? |

Hi and thanks for the replies. The cart is either a 99 or 98 and is 48volts. I do have a voltmeter. Thanks.

Agree with everyone else, you have a bad battery or multiple. Shuttering is caused by a voltage drop and a batteries inability to carry a load.
