Default Old G1 questions

First time forum user, and golf cart owner. I bought an older Yamaha G1 model. The max speed for this older cart is about 9 mph. Is this normal? The motor itself is making a clicking sort of noise in forward and reverse. The brushes look good, any chances you may think the motor needs a rebuilding or replaced?

Thanks in advance
