Electric Club Car with Minimal reverse power
have a 1981 Club Car electric with new batteries. It runs good in forward on flat ground, but very little power going up a hill. Reverse works, but has very little power and will not back up an incline. Could this be the brushes in the motor, solenoid, microswitch? I checked the solenoids with volt mtr and got no ohms across big terminals of each one. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Re: Electric Club Car with Minimal reverse power
Welcome Red!
The early Club Cars had a half power reverse... here is how it worked... positive power entered they F&R switch at the bottom ... you can see one red cable going to 36v positive at the end of the battery string. reverse power comes into the F&R right next to the red cable on the green one. It goes to battery #3 positive in the middle of the pack.... = 18v reverse.... you can simply loop the short green cable to the red on the bottom of the F&R or better yet install a copper buss bar between the 2 bottom lugs. Hope this helps. |

Re: Electric Club Car with Minimal reverse power
Thanks for helping out. My car does not have a geen wire so I moved the red rev. cable from # 3 battery pos. to# 6 battery pos. which now gives me 36v going backwards. It does great now.
Thanks again for your help! |

Re: Electric Club Car with Minimal reverse power
You have a good point, but just "tickled pink" to have enuf rev. power to back over a rock.

Re: Electric Club Car with Minimal reverse power
Where we are we get stuck in sand in the summer and mud in the winter... That half power reverse just don't cut it when you're stuck

Which makes you wonder why it was ever wired with 18v to begin with.
