Welcome to BGW

No such thing as a 1985 48 volt powerdrive. Check your serial number.

A8523 78714 is the number on the plate on the dash, isnt 85 the year, and the side of the car says power drive system 48?

As I said in my email someone has changed the body. According to the numbers you supplied in your post its a 1985 Club Car DS 36 volt. Hope you didn't buy it based on the sticker on the side.

no didnt buy it found it in a dead pile and swapped some work for it. So pretty much free. We have it running, forward ok 48v, but to get reverse we have to switch some cables.

we're getting there.
thank you

thanks you, what a great site, so far great help with our wiring problem. but its running great forward, if its 36volt, I'm surprised we have it wired for 48 and it runs super. No reverse yet but we're working on it.

When I upgrade from my 36volt to my 48 volt it was just a matter of switching the batteries from 6- 6volt batteries to 6- 8 volt batteries. The wiring stayed the same. For reverse you should have 2 wires going to the positive side of your 4rth battery. One is the negative cable coming from your third battery and the other is the power supply to your reverse control.

Before you do anything make sure you do not have a speed control box if you do not then Look at the schematic on the first page and print it out and go check all your wire connection

I tried to replace my f & R switch on my club car 36v cart and thought i hooked it up the same as the old one but when i put the battery cable back on it has a dead short, I wish the wiring diagrams on this site were better and showed like wire from bat going to what lug on the controller it needs to go to. I am a girl and this isnt easy for me to do.
