Default 198? Club Car... All Solenoids Clicking, will not go. Working, then not suddenly.

Hello everyone!

I'm new here. I have a 198? Club Car DS.

Well, I think it is. It was "custom rebuilt" in 1992 by a company that is no longer in business, that was originally located in the Villages.

They removed the original serial plate, and put on a new one, so I have no idea what year it is.

From what I can tell I *think* it's an 82 actually.

Anyway, it's been working fine for a while, I have all new batteries.

About a week ago it started jerking on take off, seems like it was starting in "second gear".

I suspected the first solenoid was going out, but then tonight I was pulling it into my shed, and it was working fine, and then nothing.

I get 5 clicks when depressing the pedal, nothing in forward or reverse.

Can the first solenoid be bad, and still click???

I've read several threads on here, and it seems like it could be the case, but others seem to say that it shouldn't click?

And since I'm not exactly sure what year it is... I don't know which solenoid to order if that's the case.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the thread that tells how to jump the solenoids properly to test?

I don't want to fry anything else.

Any input would be great. Thanks!!!

Your master solenoid is bad and that one is the first one on the drivers side.

Just jumped the first solenoid... nothing.

When I turn the rear tires while up in the air... It goes about 3/4 and then seems like some resistance? Should it spin free all the way through?

I'm starting to fear the motor or speed control are shot. :(

The five clicks you are hearing are the microswitches, the micros and solenoids are your speed control.

This is what I highly suspect, but I jumped the two large connectors, and I get nothing when depressing the pedal... is there any other way I can test?

So the clicking sounds are not the solenoids themselves?

This is what it looks like, but it's a custom body. under the seat it looks like the 82-83 ish setup. I can take a pic if that will help.

You tell us? Cart on jacks & seat bottom removed... push the gas by hand ... are the micros or the solenoids clicking? Lift the seat and take a pic, let us see what you are asking about.

No the micros activate the solenoids, although you can hear them click if the key is off and you push down the pedal. The master solenoid is like the boss,if it dont work none of the others will either. You could switch it with another to see if that fixes it if you dont mind the extra work.

A pic of under the seat would help. When you move your pedal it slides a plate in the silver box. It has staggered ribs which in turn depressed different micros at different pedal positions, this inturn engaged different solenoids which control your speed based on resistance in the coils.
