PIAA Xtreme White Plus H3 bulbs

I've been wanting brighter lights but didn't want to add an additional set due to looks wiring etc.. My current set of lights used 55w Halogen H3 style bulbs. I am running them at 12v on my voltage reducer.

I found a set of PIAA Xtreme White Plus H3 bulbs and decided to try them. There is a big difference in the amount of output over stock bulbs.

Here's some pics. First the original bulbs, then one on the right is the new bulb and the last pic is both new bulbs.

thats pretty significant! have you measured the output voltage from your converter? there is a LOT of output to be gained by running the bulbs a few volts higher.

Like SONICJ says check your voltage output on reducer ( If you have one ) and if you are running with 14-16 volts you will shorten bulb life but the luims gain would be great? I hope that you have enough amps output on your voltage redudcer to handle the extra load and not burn it out? So many reducers only have a output of 6-10 amps depending on manufacurer so I think if you have digital amp meter available I would do a amp draw test on lights to confirm safety? Also I would check your headlight wiring after long useage for hot wires as at least some of the after market wiring is pretty light guage like 22-30 guage look likes on some harnesses?
Around my area the truck kids especially are having wiring, fuse panel and switch burn up problems with stock parts when going with your style of headlights? Most are rewiring by adding extra after market fusing and HD wires with extra relays hooked direct to battery and mounted close to headlights for better output and safety on stock parts. If you try any additional changes I would like to see light photo results.

There is nothing wrong with my reducer. It puts out a constant 13.27volts. I've ran lights across two batteries for the 16volts before so I know what you are talking about, but I put in a reducer LONG ago so I have no specific draw off of any one battery. My reducer uses the full 48volts.

The thing you are missing is these new bulbs made by PIAA and are HIGH OUTPUT xtreme performance bulbs. They are designed to put out 2.5 times the light as a normal bulb and put out a bright white light. They run about $30-50 a set depending on where you buy them.

Here check them out! PIAA They are the second bulbs down, the Xtremes.

They are high luims output which is just what you wanted which is great, but the amp draw is also ( MORE unless they are some magical bulb with internal amps producing built into the bulb ) higher and this difference was my concern? When using most reducers the more you load them the less output IN AMPS-VOLTS they can provide? My advise is based on what I am seeing here with stock auto type wiring and controls and should apply to any battery sourse.
It all comes down to this, to get more you MUST add more some way?

Getting more brighter light is what you wanted and from photo's you have gotten just what you were looking for and this is wonderful BUT? My consern was based on the fact that to get more out of any battery lighting you must give it some additional power and this was my consern? You have some where a point when voltage reducers run out of steam so to speak? When we first started using voltage reducers on carts ( mostly with 8 volt bat ) most only gave very low amp output and were burning out. I have found at some point that any reducers ( I have seen ) can no longer handle additional loads and start loosing volts and amps output and this starts producing more heat, and this was what I was talking about? As to wiring its like cart bat wiring too light a guage and the loss and heat build up factor in?
It all boils down to this, I sure dont want to hear that your great cart caught on fire ( extreme yes but possible ) and was destroyed?

I was simply posting a comparison between bulbs. Regardless of anyones setup there will be a difference between stock bulbs and these. Folks can take my post for what it is or continue diagnose a problem that does not exist.

(But I do appreciate your concern.)
