96 club car ds pot

I think I am in need of a potentiometer for my 96 cc DS
It has the one with gray 3 wire plug.see pic

I olso need to know how to test it to be sure.
it has a purple wire and a yellow wire going to the speed control.
Olso is there an easy to test the controller
